Nocturnal

By L.B.

This is a color that done so much for me good and bad.

It made me have a deep hate for red.

It gave and took so many of my homies.

It gave me a life to live by and to live in.

It gave me a block and a street.

It made me family and enemies.

But the best thing I ever did was give it up.

I really like how you build the imagery the entire poem from the vague beginning to your epiphany at the end. This is a very well structured poem and the repetition of the word “it” at the beginning of each line adds to its strength even more. Like most good poetry it gets a very strong message through to the reader but is short, succinct, and to the point. You are a very talented writer and should continue to keep up the hard work!

    LB,

Thank you for your sincerity in this poem. Gang life is destructive, but we often fail to realize why they exist. They give us a sense of community. I pray that you find a different community that holds you accountable and inspires you to be your best self!
