In This Life of Mine
By DJ
I seen a lot through my eyes in this life of mine
I seen my loved ones cry in this life of mine
I’m living too fast in this life of mine
People I love passed in this life of mine
I just wanna shine in this life of mine
All I know is grind in this life of mine
I’ve done wrong in this life of mine
I just wanna go home in this life of mine
I’m gonna change my ways in this life of mine
I want better days in this life of mine

DJ,
I love your poem. I have come across this poem as part of a college course aimed at community engagement.
The repetition of “this life of mine” is very powerful. This poem really makes me think about life, the high and lows, and everything in-between. I love how you end your poem on a positive note, wanting to make a change in your life and have better days. It really speaks to finding hope, even in bad circumstances. I think it also speaks to power of writing. How poetry can be healing as well. Beautiful work!
Thank you so much for sharing this with the world!
Hi Dj,
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your poem. Each line in this poem was very hard hitting and I could certainly resonate with it personally. My favorite line was “I’m living too fast in this life of mine” because I feel like life certainly flies by us so quickly, it is hard to keep up in the present moment sometimes. The line “I just wanna go home in this life of mine” also touched me a lot because I can feel the emotion tied to it. I love the glimpses of hope you give the reader into a life ahead of you, especially when you talk about changing your ways in the future. We are all attempting to better ourselves, and I think you captured this effort extremely well in your writing. This is one of my favorite poems I’ve read so far! Great work.
Best,
CB
