What’s Art

By TT

Art is…
The heart’s expression
Of the impressions
That life leaves upon us.
Art is…
A beauty that is formed
Through a mind in bliss
Or turmoil
Art is…
These points written
Through ones heart –
Projected in full eloquence,
Or their colors slewn,
Those songs composed;
All making
Its own sense.
Art is…
The jewels of humanity –
A gift to thee
Unlike any other.
Art is…
Something found in the darkness
And pulled to the light…
Incapable of comparison.

    Hello TT,

This poem is true art. It is pure perfection, perfection you created within yourself for us to enjoy. You truly took me through a journey and painted a picture in my head. Thank you.

I love the thoughtfulness of this poem. You touch several integral parts of art and all that art can, and even should be! I appreciate the balance of vocabulary and varying word length. Keep up the wonderful, thoughtful work to both express yourself and move toward a more pensive and creative world for all!

Thank you for sharing this poem. I’m a writer myself, and some of my favorite poems are ones that begin with a question. Maybe this question isn’t one that the author can answer themselves, or perhaps doesn’t even have an answer, but the reader leaves the poem having gained something new. The poem, on the surface, questions what the concept of ‘art’ is, but also invites the reader to question what ‘life’, itself, is. The beauty of art is that it cannot be defined; that is the nature of art. But, instead, art is defined by the individual, and so your essence and voice as a writer and person shine through in this poem. You tell us how you see the world by exploring the ways in which we can define art. A beautiful poem!

    Hi TT,
I thought your poem was very well written and you did a great job of explaining the deeper meanings that art can have. I especially liked your beginning that said “Art is…
    The heart’s expression
    Of the impressions
    That life leaves upon us.”
Art is such a great outlet that allows us to express feelings and experience without even using words. There can be so much to say about the experiences in life that we have, and how they make us feel, and expressing that through art is such a beautiful thing. I personally have found art to be an important outlet for myself, which is why I strongly resonated with your poem. I feel as though it is such a wonderful thing to be able to use art as an expression, especially when sometimes it can be easier to express things through artwork rather than writing or speaking about them. Your comparisons were very unique and written well, and I encourage you to continue using both art and poetry as a form of expression.

Hello, I really love this poem, and I feel that it is able to truly capture the beauty of what is. Art can be a light in someone’s darkness or their most precious jewel. It can be used as a medium to inspire and guide. I also really love the flow of this poem and the repetition that drives home your point. The imagery used here is also quite eloquent, and I really appreciate your work. Keep it up, and I home to read another work from you!

Hello TT! Thank you so much for sharing your words. I thought your poem was great. I like how you were able to express how art can be in many forms. I hope you continue writing and sharing your wonderful work with others!

Hi TT! I really like the formation that you used for this poem, as it kept my attention this whole time and I really like the topic of the poem. You write very well and I was very entertained by this work. Keep up the good writing!

I love this poem! Personally, I really love art, so much so to the point where I want to minor in art history! This poem really highlights the age-old question: what is art? So many people have tried to answer this question, but personally, I don’t think it can be ever properly answered. I believe art is subjective; the concept of art is different depending on the person viewing or making it. I love that this poem goes over the author’s ideas of art and what defines art to them! Additionally, the writing style is so lovely and poetic! I love the last stanza, “Art is… Something found in the darkness and pulled to the light… Incapable of comparison.” What an awesome ending line! I love this poem! Great work 😀

  10. Laurel on February 28, 2023 at 8:47 PM

I really liked the line “the hearts expression of the impressions that life leaves upon us,” such a simple and deep way to encapuslate how important artistic expression is!

  11. Kayla on March 1, 2023 at 8:23 PM

This poem is beautifully written. This shows that art isn’t just what we think of when we think of art, art is what surrounds us. Art is in everyday small moments, and it’s also like you said “something found in the darkness”. I think art also is shown in relationships. Friendships can be the most beautiful things of all, a group of people who love each other and show their love with actions is art. I think if you take a step back sometimes and just observe the people and things around you and hopefully you can see how beautiful everyday things are.

  12. Corrina on March 2, 2023 at 6:15 PM

    T,
I really enjoyed your poem. It really shows that art is up for interpretation depending on the individual. There is no right or wrong way to create art. My favorite part was “Art is…The jewels of humanity –A gift to thee
Unlike any other”. I liked this line because art really is a gift to the world that is not like anything else. It awakens feelings of sadness, joy, confusion, and even frustration. Super poem!

  13. Lan on March 2, 2023 at 8:34 PM

The title of this poem drew me into this poem. You have posed a simple question but it is a question that makes people think. I believe that there is so many art forms that people do not even recognize. You hit everything that art is. Your line of “something found in the darkness and pulled to the light…” stuck out to me the most. I wrote a poetry book during a time that I lost who I was and there was such darkness over my life. That’s what pulled me out the darkness and to find the light. This is a beautiful poem

  14. Peter Zhang on March 3, 2023 at 10:43 PM

The title is pretty self explanatory. This poem explicitly explained all possible forms of art. It could be derived from the most simple daily activity, but it could also be a part of complex architectural design. Anyone could get a gist of it, but it is so hard to master art. Art is everything around us, and yet it is hard to be a expert of using art to describe our lives.

  15. Bryan on March 4, 2023 at 10:27 AM

This is very well written. Artistic expression is one of humanity’s greatest gifts. This poem encapsulates that.

  16. Jocelyn Patterson on March 4, 2023 at 1:28 PM

Hi, I really like your poem. I just started a class on humanities that has to do with art and literature. Art is such a broad concept like art in museums that has to do with history is very interesting to me. You can definitely find art in every aspect of life if you look deeply enough.

  17. TM on March 4, 2023 at 11:25 PM

To TT- There is so much art in our world and every day around us, even if we’re not always aware of it. What you’re doing is an amazing piece of art. You and so many others on this site are creating art and talking about your experiences or just things you hold dear. Creating art can be hard sometimes but once you get into it you can make great things. Music, writing, painting, poetry, and so much more can have so many meanings because that’s what art is. Art never has one meaning. I hope the art that your producing, your poetry, can be an escape from the things that you go through. Art can be your outlet to convey your feelings or even things you find interesting or even angry. Amazing poem, keeping making art!

  18. Oshane on March 7, 2023 at 1:44 AM

    Hi TT,

Great poem appreciating Art. What I like best is how you emphasize the emotional and personal nature of art, and how you recognize that art is about more than just the finished product, but also about the journey and the emotions expressed through it.

Art is essential for human expression and for understanding and appreciating our surroundings.

  19. Jazmyne on March 7, 2023 at 9:35 AM

What a beautiful poem. I love your representation of art. The way you kept repeating the phrase “art is…” makes the poem more imaginable for the reader. You don’t dive into great detail about the art you are describing and I love that because it makes it more relatable to more readers. This poem is absolutely beautiful to bounce from line to line. Keep up the writing!

  20. Charlie on March 12, 2023 at 9:07 PM

I like the phrase “the impressions that life leaves upon us,” because it brings to mind the idea of leaf impressions, like the art you make in elementary when you’re just stamping leaves with paint on paper, but it also reminds you of the way your body changes with age: wrinkles, scars, laugh lines. Like life is pressing leafs onto our skin. Or “Through ones heart – projected in full eloquence,” makes me think of light being filtered though a hole in your heart, like a movie projector. This poem is very evocative, which i think means it’s a pretty good reflection of it’s topic.

  21. Ashley T on March 12, 2023 at 11:15 PM

    Hi TT,
I completely agree with your poem and think it was written very well. Art is open to endless ideas and creative works, and I agree that it allows us to express ourselves a great deal. Whether it is coming from a place of happiness or being used as an emotional outlet, it has the ability to bring much peace and relief. I liked that you said it’s a gift unlike any other, because it really is such a unique thing. I enjoyed your explanation and comparison of art, and I definitely agree and encourage you to continue with your appreciation and passion for art/poetry.

  22. Colleen on March 13, 2023 at 12:28 AM

I really like the repetition you used here. It draws in the reader and makes them ask questions like, “what else is art?” I like all the different descriptions you use and how every time you described art, it was in a very different way than in the previous point.

  23. Amalia on March 13, 2023 at 11:32 AM

THIS is art!!!! I loved the lines “The jewels of humanity –/A gift to thee/Unlike any other.” It was really interesting to see how you view art as something to give and share, and I loved how you used a more antique word like “thee” paired with the word jewel; it made me think of a crown or something else special.

  24. KC on March 13, 2023 at 1:03 PM

    TT,

I love the phrase “something found in the darkness and pulled into light.” What a wonderful metaphor for art! Thank you for sharing your art with us.

  25. Caroline on March 15, 2023 at 4:01 PM

This is just amazing. As someone who loves art and hearing art, this struck home to me. Art is something that everyone can enjoy no matter race, ethnicity, gender, or any other social status. I really appreciate what you said here and it all just flows so nicely together! Keep doing what you are doing. I can feel your heart and soul in these words and you should feel proud of what you have written. It sounds like something I would hear at a poetry slam or something out of a movie. I cannot say enough about this, and then again, what is eARTh without ART!

  26. Kai C on March 18, 2023 at 11:34 PM

I loved this poem. Very insightful and well said. Great work

  27. Kay on March 19, 2023 at 10:36 PM

Lovely poem! I really enjoyed the reiteration of “art is” to emphasize the focal point of the poem. Art is a super important aspect of humanity because it one of the top tools we use to express ourselves. It’s true you can’t compare art to anything because art is what you make of it.

  28. Evelyn on March 22, 2023 at 2:16 PM

The patterns in this poem are really nice and appropriately placed. The way you describe what art is, is truly beautiful. Relating art to humanity and even darkness shows that art is everywhere around us. Whether we create it ourselves, to how often we witness art in every form or forms throughout our daily lives. Art is a powerful piece of life and we should recognize that. Thank you for your lovely piece.

  29. Mitchell on March 23, 2023 at 12:23 PM

CM, this is such a motivational poem, from start to finish, I love how you really show your emotions and feelings throughout as it is very tough for some people even to tell their stories to friends nevermind post them to people you don’t know, all I can say is that you are a brave soul, I am hoping you are doing much better and get your redemption over your past times, don’t stop moving forward

  30. Rohan on March 27, 2023 at 12:41 AM

“What’s Art” by TT is a thought-provoking and insightful poem that seeks to define the essence of art. The poem suggests that art is a form of expression that arises from the impressions life leaves upon us, and that it can be both beautiful and tumultuous. The use of contrasts between “bliss” and “turmoil” highlights the range of emotions that art can evoke. The repetition of “Art is…” emphasizes the multiple facets of art, which can take many forms, including written words, visual images, and musical compositions. The line “all making its own sense” suggests that art is subjective and can be interpreted in many ways. The poem also suggests that art is a gift to humanity that is unique and incomparable, and that it has the power to transform darkness into light. Overall, “What’s Art” is a thoughtful and inspiring exploration of the power of art to express and transform the human experience.

  31. maggie on March 27, 2023 at 9:27 AM

I really enjoy this poem. You don’t see a lot of poems like this here. It was so different, I loved reading. I wish there was more. I encourage you to write more poems like this!

  32. Stella on March 28, 2023 at 12:18 PM

This is truly a beautiful poem. I love how you offer so many different interpretations of art. Your line about how art is “incapable of comparison” is really moving. I feel like so often everything is made into a competition, which, specifically in the case of art, can distract from beauty and enjoyment. Your line puts it beautifully. Amazing poem!

  33. Hana on March 30, 2023 at 10:02 AM

I really enjoyed this poem! Art comes in many shapes and sizes, and I really love how you described how beautiful art is.

  34. Braeden on March 30, 2023 at 3:16 PM

I really loved this poem. It brings out everything I love about art and it truly defines what art is. An example I would give of art is this poem. It really stuck out from all of the other poems! Keep writing things like this, it’s amazing!

  35. Will on March 30, 2023 at 3:17 PM

Hello, I liked how your poem beautifully expressed art. It is truly the most unique form of human expression. Sometimes the most beautiful art comes from the most terrible things someone has experienced.

  36. Allie on March 30, 2023 at 3:17 PM

As someone who frequently listens to music and draws I absolutely love this poem. The line that is “incapable of comparison” really hit me. It reminded me that no art if the same just like no one’s life is exactly the same. And life is a beautiful masterpiece crafted by oneself. But our life songs get louder and quieter. Some of us are at our climax. Beautiful poem!

  37. Kayla on March 30, 2023 at 3:18 PM

I love how you described art and I agree!

  38. Grace on April 4, 2023 at 10:56 PM

    Hi there!
I really liked reading this poem and I related to it a lot, as art is something I have been able to express myself through when I couldn’t with words. I think that you are absolutely correct when you mention that art is a gift, it is something to be admired and analyzed. All art has a meaning that goes deeper than the surface. I love how you mentioned all of the forms that art takes, whether it be music, sculptures, writing, anything of the sort. Not many people realize just how much they interact with art on a daily basis and I think it’s so important to remember that we do because of the messages it provides. I also agree with you in the fact that whether someone is feeling happy and joyful, or sad and depressed, that art is used to express oneself and it doesn’t just have to be used in order to depict one feeling or another. My favorite quote from this poem is the first few lines, how art is an expression of the heart. I think that is one of the truest statements I have ever heard. Thank you for sharing this poem. It was inspiring.

  39. Anna on April 11, 2023 at 8:51 PM

The visuals and repetition are both fantastic. I found this work to be really entertaining and you write quite effectively. You defined what art is in its entirety. There is no single meaning to art. Human expression requires the creation of art. This poem is lovely and flows well from line to line.

  40. Annika on April 12, 2023 at 2:53 PM

I really love this poem! There are so many things in life that are subjective whether it be beauty, music, foods, etc. Art is definitely one of them. There are truly so many different shapes and forms of art. They are all ways of beautifully and creatively expressed people, places, things, etc. This poem did a wonderful job of talking about that!

  41. Ethan Reyes on April 15, 2023 at 7:21 PM

I really love the essence of this poem. This poem beautifully captures the essence of what art means to the author. It’s clear that the author believes that art is an expression of the heart and that it captures the many impressions that life leaves upon us. The author emphasizes that art is unique to each individual and can be created from a place of both joy and turmoil. The poem does an excellent job of conveying the various forms that art can take and the inherent value that each form holds. I particularly love the line about art being the “jewels of humanity,” as it truly does feel like a gift that enriches our lives in countless ways. The poem’s final line is particularly powerful, as it highlights how art has the ability to pull us out of darkness and into the light. Overall, this poem serves as a moving tribute to the transformative power of art and the ways in which it brings beauty and meaning into our lives.

  42. Andrew on April 16, 2023 at 9:42 PM

This poem beautifully explores the many facets of art and its impact on human expression and emotion. The repetition and parallel structure add unity to the piece, and the final lines offer a powerful imagery of art as a light in the darkness.

  43. IK on April 16, 2023 at 10:07 PM

Thank you for sharing your poem! I loved how you captured the essence of what art means in such a concise and thought-provoking way. Your journey towards independence and success in the music industry is truly inspiring, and I appreciate how you’ve shared your determination and resilience. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your story.

  44. Oshanie on April 16, 2023 at 10:25 PM

Hello! This poem is very beautiful and really makes you think of what Art is and how you perceive it. Art is not limited, it can be music, foods, paintings etc. it is how someone looks at it, and how Art can bring brightness to someone.

  45. Jatan on April 16, 2023 at 10:40 PM

    Hey TT!

I really enjoyed your poem. It beautifully describes art in a way that I have never seen myself. Something like a way to express the impressions that life leaves on us, and it can be created through a mind in bliss or turmoil. Art, truly, is a gift to humanity that is impossible to compare, and this poem was a wonderful read!

  46. A. on April 17, 2023 at 12:11 AM

Art is everything and anything you want it to be. I love the forms of art you choose to focus on, including the words of your own art. Art’s only goal is to make you feel and think, and you accomplish both so beautifully with your poem.

  47. Amelia on April 17, 2023 at 9:14 PM

WOW! This poem is truly so beautiful. I really enjoyed how you gave so many different perspectives and examples of what art is! The flow of this poem is truly great and I also think your diction is so mature and truly helps to convey the emotion and feeling of the words you are trying to convey! Great job on the poem, I really enjoyed reading it and I hope you continue to keep writing!

  48. Diamond on May 3, 2023 at 1:10 PM

I really enjoyed this poem. I found this poem intriguing about how it covered the topic of art. I believe that the poem has many ways. I felt as though this displayed things words couldn’t by expressing it in art.

  49. Bella L on May 9, 2023 at 6:04 PM

I love how this poem highlights that art can come from the mind’s joy or the mind’s strife because art as a creative outlet is a form of expression and human nature does not mean we only create art out of happiness. This poem is beautiful and you are really expressing yourself through art, just like how the poem describes!

  50. YM on May 9, 2023 at 8:53 PM

Thank you for sharing this poem. I feel that each stanza is very thoughtful and I think they state a lot about the beauty of art and it’s very symbolic. I love the emotional aspects as well in this poem and the expressiveness in the final stanza.

  51. Luke on May 10, 2023 at 3:26 AM

TT – This poem was beautiful. I resonate so deeply with your connection to art and the many forms it can take. I look forward to hopefully reading more poetry from you to come and I wish you the absolute best.

  52. Sophia on May 10, 2023 at 2:41 PM

This poem is amazing! Art is.. this poem. I really enjoyed reading this, it made me reflect on my own opinions on what art is and it really made me think. Great choice of words, it really helped the poem flow well. My favorite line was “Art is a beauty that is formed through a mind in bliss or turmoil.” this is so true, some of the most beautiful things I’ve read, seen, or heard were either made by someone who was expressing their joy or expressing their pain. Great job!

  53. alli on May 12, 2023 at 12:28 AM

This poem is absolutely beautiful, you’re able to point out what art is in many different ways. This poem caught my eye because as someone who loves art, I’d love to see what other people feel about art, and what you said made me think that art is more than visual, it can also be a feeling.

  54. Peter Dang on May 16, 2023 at 5:26 PM

The poem is true art itself as I can feel that you put so many thoughts and emotions into it. The pure beauty of art lies in every sentence that you composed – “Art is the heart’s expression of the impressions that life leaves upon us” or “Art is something found in the darkness and pulled to the light… incapable of comparison”.

  55. Asiah on May 23, 2023 at 10:22 PM

This is a great poem. I love art so much, I have since I was a child. I love how this goes into depth of what art is. This poem puts art into perspectives I would’ve never thought of.
