What’s Art
By TT
Art is…
The heart’s expression
Of the impressions
That life leaves upon us.
Art is…
A beauty that is formed
Through a mind in bliss
Or turmoil
Art is…
These points written
Through ones heart –
Projected in full eloquence,
Or their colors slewn,
Those songs composed;
All making
Its own sense.
Art is…
The jewels of humanity –
A gift to thee
Unlike any other.
Art is…
Something found in the darkness
And pulled to the light…
Incapable of comparison.

Hello TT,
This poem is true art. It is pure perfection, perfection you created within yourself for us to enjoy. You truly took me through a journey and painted a picture in my head. Thank you.
I love the thoughtfulness of this poem. You touch several integral parts of art and all that art can, and even should be! I appreciate the balance of vocabulary and varying word length. Keep up the wonderful, thoughtful work to both express yourself and move toward a more pensive and creative world for all!
i love the repetition accompanied by the vivid imagery, it invokes peace and hope in the reader
Thank you for sharing this poem. I’m a writer myself, and some of my favorite poems are ones that begin with a question. Maybe this question isn’t one that the author can answer themselves, or perhaps doesn’t even have an answer, but the reader leaves the poem having gained something new. The poem, on the surface, questions what the concept of ‘art’ is, but also invites the reader to question what ‘life’, itself, is. The beauty of art is that it cannot be defined; that is the nature of art. But, instead, art is defined by the individual, and so your essence and voice as a writer and person shine through in this poem. You tell us how you see the world by exploring the ways in which we can define art. A beautiful poem!
Hi TT,
I thought your poem was very well written and you did a great job of explaining the deeper meanings that art can have. I especially liked your beginning that said “Art is…
The heart’s expression
Of the impressions
That life leaves upon us.”
Art is such a great outlet that allows us to express feelings and experience without even using words. There can be so much to say about the experiences in life that we have, and how they make us feel, and expressing that through art is such a beautiful thing. I personally have found art to be an important outlet for myself, which is why I strongly resonated with your poem. I feel as though it is such a wonderful thing to be able to use art as an expression, especially when sometimes it can be easier to express things through artwork rather than writing or speaking about them. Your comparisons were very unique and written well, and I encourage you to continue using both art and poetry as a form of expression.
Hello, I really love this poem, and I feel that it is able to truly capture the beauty of what is. Art can be a light in someone’s darkness or their most precious jewel. It can be used as a medium to inspire and guide. I also really love the flow of this poem and the repetition that drives home your point. The imagery used here is also quite eloquent, and I really appreciate your work. Keep it up, and I home to read another work from you!
Hello TT! Thank you so much for sharing your words. I thought your poem was great. I like how you were able to express how art can be in many forms. I hope you continue writing and sharing your wonderful work with others!
Hi TT! I really like the formation that you used for this poem, as it kept my attention this whole time and I really like the topic of the poem. You write very well and I was very entertained by this work. Keep up the good writing!
I love this poem! Personally, I really love art, so much so to the point where I want to minor in art history! This poem really highlights the age-old question: what is art? So many people have tried to answer this question, but personally, I don’t think it can be ever properly answered. I believe art is subjective; the concept of art is different depending on the person viewing or making it. I love that this poem goes over the author’s ideas of art and what defines art to them! Additionally, the writing style is so lovely and poetic! I love the last stanza, “Art is… Something found in the darkness and pulled to the light… Incapable of comparison.” What an awesome ending line! I love this poem! Great work 😀
I really liked the line “the hearts expression of the impressions that life leaves upon us,” such a simple and deep way to encapuslate how important artistic expression is!
This poem is beautifully written. This shows that art isn’t just what we think of when we think of art, art is what surrounds us. Art is in everyday small moments, and it’s also like you said “something found in the darkness”. I think art also is shown in relationships. Friendships can be the most beautiful things of all, a group of people who love each other and show their love with actions is art. I think if you take a step back sometimes and just observe the people and things around you and hopefully you can see how beautiful everyday things are.
T,
I really enjoyed your poem. It really shows that art is up for interpretation depending on the individual. There is no right or wrong way to create art. My favorite part was “Art is…The jewels of humanity –A gift to thee
Unlike any other”. I liked this line because art really is a gift to the world that is not like anything else. It awakens feelings of sadness, joy, confusion, and even frustration. Super poem!
The title of this poem drew me into this poem. You have posed a simple question but it is a question that makes people think. I believe that there is so many art forms that people do not even recognize. You hit everything that art is. Your line of “something found in the darkness and pulled to the light…” stuck out to me the most. I wrote a poetry book during a time that I lost who I was and there was such darkness over my life. That’s what pulled me out the darkness and to find the light. This is a beautiful poem
The title is pretty self explanatory. This poem explicitly explained all possible forms of art. It could be derived from the most simple daily activity, but it could also be a part of complex architectural design. Anyone could get a gist of it, but it is so hard to master art. Art is everything around us, and yet it is hard to be a expert of using art to describe our lives.
This is very well written. Artistic expression is one of humanity’s greatest gifts. This poem encapsulates that.
Hi, I really like your poem. I just started a class on humanities that has to do with art and literature. Art is such a broad concept like art in museums that has to do with history is very interesting to me. You can definitely find art in every aspect of life if you look deeply enough.
To TT- There is so much art in our world and every day around us, even if we’re not always aware of it. What you’re doing is an amazing piece of art. You and so many others on this site are creating art and talking about your experiences or just things you hold dear. Creating art can be hard sometimes but once you get into it you can make great things. Music, writing, painting, poetry, and so much more can have so many meanings because that’s what art is. Art never has one meaning. I hope the art that your producing, your poetry, can be an escape from the things that you go through. Art can be your outlet to convey your feelings or even things you find interesting or even angry. Amazing poem, keeping making art!
Hi TT,
Great poem appreciating Art. What I like best is how you emphasize the emotional and personal nature of art, and how you recognize that art is about more than just the finished product, but also about the journey and the emotions expressed through it.
Art is essential for human expression and for understanding and appreciating our surroundings.
What a beautiful poem. I love your representation of art. The way you kept repeating the phrase “art is…” makes the poem more imaginable for the reader. You don’t dive into great detail about the art you are describing and I love that because it makes it more relatable to more readers. This poem is absolutely beautiful to bounce from line to line. Keep up the writing!
I like the phrase “the impressions that life leaves upon us,” because it brings to mind the idea of leaf impressions, like the art you make in elementary when you’re just stamping leaves with paint on paper, but it also reminds you of the way your body changes with age: wrinkles, scars, laugh lines. Like life is pressing leafs onto our skin. Or “Through ones heart – projected in full eloquence,” makes me think of light being filtered though a hole in your heart, like a movie projector. This poem is very evocative, which i think means it’s a pretty good reflection of it’s topic.
Hi TT,
I completely agree with your poem and think it was written very well. Art is open to endless ideas and creative works, and I agree that it allows us to express ourselves a great deal. Whether it is coming from a place of happiness or being used as an emotional outlet, it has the ability to bring much peace and relief. I liked that you said it’s a gift unlike any other, because it really is such a unique thing. I enjoyed your explanation and comparison of art, and I definitely agree and encourage you to continue with your appreciation and passion for art/poetry.
I really like the repetition you used here. It draws in the reader and makes them ask questions like, “what else is art?” I like all the different descriptions you use and how every time you described art, it was in a very different way than in the previous point.
THIS is art!!!! I loved the lines “The jewels of humanity –/A gift to thee/Unlike any other.” It was really interesting to see how you view art as something to give and share, and I loved how you used a more antique word like “thee” paired with the word jewel; it made me think of a crown or something else special.
TT,
I love the phrase “something found in the darkness and pulled into light.” What a wonderful metaphor for art! Thank you for sharing your art with us.
This is just amazing. As someone who loves art and hearing art, this struck home to me. Art is something that everyone can enjoy no matter race, ethnicity, gender, or any other social status. I really appreciate what you said here and it all just flows so nicely together! Keep doing what you are doing. I can feel your heart and soul in these words and you should feel proud of what you have written. It sounds like something I would hear at a poetry slam or something out of a movie. I cannot say enough about this, and then again, what is eARTh without ART!
I loved this poem. Very insightful and well said. Great work
Lovely poem! I really enjoyed the reiteration of “art is” to emphasize the focal point of the poem. Art is a super important aspect of humanity because it one of the top tools we use to express ourselves. It’s true you can’t compare art to anything because art is what you make of it.
The patterns in this poem are really nice and appropriately placed. The way you describe what art is, is truly beautiful. Relating art to humanity and even darkness shows that art is everywhere around us. Whether we create it ourselves, to how often we witness art in every form or forms throughout our daily lives. Art is a powerful piece of life and we should recognize that. Thank you for your lovely piece.
“What’s Art” by TT is a thought-provoking and insightful poem that seeks to define the essence of art. The poem suggests that art is a form of expression that arises from the impressions life leaves upon us, and that it can be both beautiful and tumultuous. The use of contrasts between “bliss” and “turmoil” highlights the range of emotions that art can evoke. The repetition of “Art is…” emphasizes the multiple facets of art, which can take many forms, including written words, visual images, and musical compositions. The line “all making its own sense” suggests that art is subjective and can be interpreted in many ways. The poem also suggests that art is a gift to humanity that is unique and incomparable, and that it has the power to transform darkness into light. Overall, “What’s Art” is a thoughtful and inspiring exploration of the power of art to express and transform the human experience.
I really enjoy this poem. You don’t see a lot of poems like this here. It was so different, I loved reading. I wish there was more. I encourage you to write more poems like this!
This is truly a beautiful poem. I love how you offer so many different interpretations of art. Your line about how art is “incapable of comparison” is really moving. I feel like so often everything is made into a competition, which, specifically in the case of art, can distract from beauty and enjoyment. Your line puts it beautifully. Amazing poem!
