Autumn In My Mind

By TT

Temperatures cool to signal the change
clothing layers increase to acknowledge the same
leaves fade and trees grow bare
the vibe of autumn is clearly in the air.
As squirrels hurry to improve the cache
The bears eat thinking of a sleep that last
Colors once green, go orange then gold
Mother nature’s beauty can never grow old
So we all watch this transition a glitter
and await the next coming of winter

This poem is calming and enjoyable to read. The way the words flow from one line to the next is calming. Its like the weather/seasons are telling their story. This poem shows the affect that weather has an impact on peoples mental and emotional health. Fall to winter is just another turning point, but looking at it with some context and detail helps give the seasons some personality. This poem is written well because I can imagine using my five senses and the emotion being portrayed. You got this and remember the best is yet to come!

I love your writing style! As someone who also loves to write poetry, I can say you are a natural at creating such a surreal setting of seasons. I hope to see some more of your writings in the future!

I loved this poem. I have been looking forward to summer being over, since autumn is one of the best times of the year (in my opinion). Something about the leaves changing color, the sweaters and beanies, the smell of nature…
Thank you for bringing a smile to my face today.

I absolutely love Fall – it’s my favorite season. This poem accurately depicts Autumn and what it’s like. Great use of imagery and word selections.

Hello TT, I want to start off by saying how warming your poem is. I am one to love nature so your poem describing autumn and the transition, the feelings, the observations that are traditional yet different every year, and how it never fails to amaze us and embrace us with such an amazing feeling every time really intrigues me. I really love the choice of wording that you executed throughout your poem. For example, when you said “color’s once green, go orange, then gold; mother nature’s beauty can never grow old” really hit me differently. When I read that my imagination got the best of me and I couldn’t help but let myself escape thinking of walking down a path surrounded by trees that are changing into these beautiful bright eccentric colors, the beauty holding me in a trance, and just being captivated by the whole scene. I loved how you mentioned animals, whenever I think of autumn, I always think of animals getting ready to start a new chapter in their life to. It’s almost like we’re all transitioning as one to get ready for the cold blustery winter. The first poem I’ve ever written before back in middle school was about autumn as well so reading this, I was in engulfed in nostalgia and just overwhelmed with joy. I really did enjoy this piece of work, and I really hope that I can read and view the other seasons through your eyes as well!
I wish you the best! – Aaliyah!

Hi! I really like the word choice you use in your poem. It gives a really vivid description of what Autumn feels like. Ending some lines with rhyming words also adds some rhythm to your poem. Overall, it is a very simple and beautiful poem to read!

  7. Jade on September 24, 2022 at 8:19 PM

I really like your use of rhyme at the end of each line, it makes the poem flow nicely. I also like the imagery and how the animals prepare for winter coming, and the small detail of us humans also preparing by layering up in clothing. I thought this poem was very effective in conveying the feelings of autumn.

  8. kayla on September 25, 2022 at 12:12 AM

The imagery in this poem was really nice! That along with the rhyming made the poem a nice, casual read. It’s very fitting for this time of year as all the things the author described are happening right now!

It is so fascinating how mother nature and the universe give us so many wondrous things that sometimes we forget to appreciate. The different seasons. Having Night and Day. As winter approaches I really look forward to exploring it, It will be my first time seeing the snow. I can already feel the climate changes fluctuating daily. I like your choice of descriptive words 🙂

  10. Nora on September 25, 2022 at 8:53 PM

Associating change with weather gives a clear visualization of what you want to depict. It’s interesting how you choose fall as the weather to symbolize growth. But it showed a clear point that it has changed, preparing for the next phase in its life, but not made it to growing. The line encompassing mother nature highlights the passing of time and the change that comes with it but also how some things remain the same.

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons so this poem stood out to me. I really like the wording you used here and your poem creates a picture in my head. Along with the wording I like how your poem flows and it is easy to understand and follow as the reader. Great Job!

  15. Josie Kelly on October 3, 2022 at 8:12 PM

I love this poem. It brings me good vibes and excited for fall! I love the creativeness of talking about the fall animals and the colors!

  16. HL on October 7, 2022 at 2:51 PM

The imagery in this poem is so vivid and creates such a visceral painting in the reader’s mind of the beauty found in the transition between seasons. Your writing gives me all of the warm feels of Autumn at once! I love how you touch upon all different aspects of fall using every one of the 5 senses, not just the temperature, but also the colors, sights, sounds, perspectives of animals preparing for the cold season…everything ties together so seamlessly and creates a gorgeous, lush experience for the reader that can be felt as if it was more than words, as if I’m standing in the middle of Autumn blossoming around me. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for nature poems, and this one stands out brilliantly. Please continue to write and share poems; the world needs more nature poets in it. Bravo!

  17. Meghan on October 7, 2022 at 4:48 PM

I really loved the rhyming words that were used in this piece. The autumn time is such a pretty season and I love all of the changes in the weather. My favorite part of autumn is when the leaves on the trees turn different colors, it is so beautiful. I also love the smell of the autumn air, the smell of crisp air, and pumpkins.

  18. Conor Thompson on October 9, 2022 at 4:18 PM

TT I picked your poem because of my love for the fall and all of the good things that it brings. I would like to mention how when it gets colder it’s the signal to change and I do not know if you meant it or not but that’s a very deep way of thinking about life. Around this time seasonal depression starts to hit, we keep adding layers to ourselves. Some of the major holidays are coming up and people will most likely go home to see families and that can be stressful.

  19. Oshane on October 11, 2022 at 11:39 AM

Yes, Autumn is here I love to see the transition of the leaves change from green to orange and fall. Also a constant reminder from nature that we are supposed to change, grow with the seasons, and evolve. We are never meant to be the same!

  20. Ainsley on October 13, 2022 at 5:04 PM

    Hi TT,
I loved reading this poem. The language you used created a beautiful image of the transition from fall into winter. The leaves changing have always been my favorite part of fall, and I think you described this beautifully. The line “Colors once green, go orange then gold / Moter nature’s beauty can never grow old” was my favorite. Thank you for sharing!

This is a good poem! My favorite line is the imagery of the leaves in time change. I found your poem pretty interesting and beautiful.

  22. Kayley on October 16, 2022 at 5:11 PM

I loved reading this story and picturing the landscape because fall is my personal favorite season. You did a great job at describing what fall is all about. My favorite line was “Mother nature’s beauty can never grow old” because it explains how she represents our world and the beauty of the earth. I appreciated how the poems’ final two lines foreshadowed the arrival of winter after fall. Since reading this poem was like a breath of fresh air, the only thing I wish is that it were a little bit longer. I’m looking forward to reading other poems of yours!

  23. Mackenzie Curry on October 16, 2022 at 9:56 PM

    Hi TT,
What a beautiful poem to read! Fall is my favorite season, it just the perfect temperature and look and smell and I can’t even explain it. Even though this poem was a short but sweet one, you could go in depth with every sentence of how amazing every part of autumn is. I really like how you included the animal facts at the end, my favorite!! I hope you continue to write beautiful, light and sweet poems. It was a joy to reead!
    Thank you!

It is interesting how the change of season also relates to emotions of the author. Fall is one of my favorite seasons and this poem depicts it very beautifully. The contrast between the animals, squirrels and bears is very interesting. The list of colors listed help create a image of the season very well.

  29. Tiff on October 25, 2022 at 11:41 AM

  30. Samantha Haviland on October 25, 2022 at 7:54 PM

Hello. I loved reading this poem. Growing up in a state where one of our big yearly tourist attractions is the changing of the leaves it is easy to take it for granted. Yet every year, as the colors reach their peak it is breathtaking. Your poem does an amazing job of using words to describe the change of seasons into Autumn. I think your writing reminds us that the world continues to turn and we should embrace each passing season.

TT, this was a beautiful poem. The imagery and rhythm packed some serious power. I always tend to hear a hip-hop artist when I read poems like this – when I read yours, I hear Guru from Gang Starr. Specifically it reminded me of the flow in their song “Above The Clouds”. You should check it out if you haven’t had the chance to listen to it yet. You’ve got some serious talent here and I would love to hear more!

    Hi TT,

I really enjoyed reading your poem. Its uplifting tone made it really refreshing and unique since it seems like most poems have more sad undertones. You have a way of writing which makes the readers really appreciate nature. Your imagery perfectly sets the mood of fall and helped me picture all of what’s changing. I am from the Midwest and now live in the South, so your poem had a way of bringing to life the season I basically missed. Also, you have such a great writing style which, makes your poem easy to read and flow well. Great job!

Mother nature’s beauty can never grow old”. It was a wonderful rhyme!

  59. PH on March 21, 2023 at 9:28 PM

Temperatures get colder to show the change in the air and season. The clothing layers are for anybody living or non living Iike animals noticing the change and adapting to stay warm. Good clear imagery with leaves fade and trees grow bare. The feeling of autumn is easily seen in the air. The squirrels are hurrying to fill up their storage supplies through hibernation. It’s so nice that the bears will sleep peacefully don’t you think? The colors are just beautiful and eye dropping yet sad at the same time since death is in the air too yet hope that the next cycle of life starts again continuing into the next season as a process. It’s awesome that you say Mother nature’s beauty can never grow old.

The imagery is vivid, such as the “colors once green, [going] orange then gold” and the “squirrels hurry[ing] to improve the cache.” The use of personification, such as “Mother nature’s beauty can never grow old,” adds to the overall feeling of the poem.
Overall, this is a well-crafted and evocative poem that effectively captures the mood and imagery of the autumn season.

  66. TM on April 15, 2023 at 8:57 PM

To TT- This was such a different poem from the ones I’ve read on here before. Your poem created so much imagery of the weather and autumn specifically. Autumn is my favorite season, so it caught my eye by the title even before reading it. You were also able to add rhyming in this poem about nature and the season. Autumn is all about transitioning, the leaves, the trees, the colors, and how it transitions into the coldness of winter. Such a unique poem keep it up!

  67. Safwan on April 16, 2023 at 4:14 PM

This poem has such a fun rhyme scheme and beautiful imagery. You sound so excited about the fall and I love that you appreciate so much about nature. I hope to reach that level of appreciation myself.

Autumn is such a beautiful season and you described it so perfectly. Your poem captures this sense of change and transition that comes with the arrival of autumn. I love the imagery you painted in the reader’s mind about these changes. with descriptions of changing temperatures, clothing layers, fading leaves, and the transition from green to orange and gold colors. This creates a vivid picture of the season in the reader’s mind. the poem is beautiful, organized, and well balanced, great work.
