Yours, The Reader (Perception)

By AL

See, deception will mask its own perception
The seed you sow
Is the seed you’ll show
So that’s the seed I’ll know
So try and dig it up
But your roots are what I see
My reactions to you
Your reactions to me
So you can cut it down
But you cannot un-plant a tree
So I am not wrong when I sing your song
But sing it better than you
What God puts together
No one can tear apart
Because it’s connected
Heart to heart
See, deception will mask its own perception

I love the different layers and levels of this poem, how it’s not as simple as it may originally appear. After reading it several times, you start to see that not everything is as it seems, which I think is one of the themes of the poem. I especially like the idea of the irreversibility of actions in the line “but you cannot un-plant a tree.” I think different people can interpret this poem in different ways, which is one of its strengths.

This feels like it’s saying ‘you can’t hide what you think and feel, especially when you try to hide it.’ I like “So I am not wrong when I sing your song
But sing it better than you.” Those words sound like the speaker has honest but cutting pride, and is just telling it like it is.

I’m going to bookmark this 🙂 I really like the flow and sound of it, and the feel of confidence and sharp-edged honesty. It doesn’t spare the listener’s feelings.

I appreciate the depth and seriousness of this piece.
It’s really amazing. I will be showing this off to my friends!
