Welcome To Da Darkside

By VM

If I had a second chance to be reborn
And came out of my mother womb
With the sense and knowledge I have now
How could I end up like this???
Just remember you living
In a world full of envy and non-sense
That still exist from a hundred years ago
Don’t be upset with yourself
Because you was brought in a world
That you didn’t ask to come in
Mix the bitter with the sweet
And move on from the past

  1. Dear Poet,

This poem has both anguish and acceptance in it, and the tension between the two makes the poem alive. I love the reminder that many of things that have made us who we are have their roots in a history long before our time–the “envy and nonsense that still exist from a hundred years ago.” This poem reminds me of the Serenity Prayer, which asks for “Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.” It’s a serious piece of advice on how to live. I hope you will continue writing poems like this that both challenge and comfort.

  2. Thank you for the positive and helpful message in your poem, “Welcome to Da Darkside.” Often I find it difficult to face the unfairness and pain the life presents. Your poem came just in time as a reminder that injustice and suffering are all around us, and that we all must make the choice, as you say, to “mix the bitter with the sweet, and move on from the past.” Not an easy task! But we must take courage and make the effort. Thank you for speaking this hard but necessary truth.

  3. Yeah VM, it’s gone on from forever.
We don’t ask, but one way or another,
    we surely answer.
