Through the Struggle

By MM

You see that I am locked up
You see that I have a charge
But you don’t know me

You would know me if…
You took time to talk to me to find out how intelligent I am
You knew how hard it was to grow up and be me
You knew how I felt the times that I couldn’t get what I want
You knew how hard it was goin’ through the struggle

You see that I am black and young
You see that I come from the hood
But you don’t know me

You would know me if…
You been around me to see how positive I am
You knew how I be best at whatever I put my mind to
You knew how good I was in school
You knew how I was wilding just ’cause my men was
You knew how I was doing wrong but didn’t know the right things

Then you would know me.
