In the Name of Allah

By PM

I asked Allah for a rose,
he sent me a bouquet….

I asked Allah for a minute,
he sent me a day….

I asked Allah for love,
he sent me that too….

I asked Allah for an angel,
He sent me you!!!!…

I absolutely love the premise of this poem! So fun how you incorporate the reader in the last line, well done.

I love everything about this poem! The rhymes, the repetition and most importantly the message. Such a beautiful and powerful message. Great work!

I respect your strong value of faith. I personally have struggled with navigating my beliefs in my life so when I see others so passionate I feel inspired that I’ll figure it out one day at a time!

    PM,
I find your poem to be very sweet, I can tell it was written with love. The only critique I have is the punctuation for the last line, I feel that if it was just …. instead of !!!!…, then visually the poem would be more symmetric.

  5. Dana on April 20, 2021 at 1:37 PM

Wow. I love this poem so much. So beautifully well done, wonderful rhymes!!

  6. Annie on April 20, 2021 at 7:39 PM

I love this. Short, impactful and sweet. I’d probably just end with just a single period to really drive it in.

I really liked your poem. It shows your connection to Allah and His provision. He doesn’t just answer your requests, but goes above and beyond each time. I like how you conveyed his nature through your use of direct examples and repetition with “I asked Allah” and “he sent me”. The final stanza was touching and it put a huge smile on my face.

    Hi PM,

Thank you for sharing your work and incorporating your faith in it as well. The concept that I took away was that you receive more when you ask for less. You can never be too greedy in this life because you cannot expect to receive good in return. I cannot wait to read more of your work.

Hey! I really like this poem! One optional recommendation would be to give it some rhyme!

  10. Nicole Nowicki on April 23, 2021 at 3:55 PM

I loved the set up of the poem! I enjoyed the repetition and the analogies used, I felt like I was able to comprehend the love and loyalty the author has in their relationship with Allah. Poetry is such a great spiritual outlet, and I feel like I can experience how uplifting the connection the author has with their religion because it’s conveyed very well. At the end, I would just get rid of the ellipses and leave the exclamation points at the end! Great job, I hope you keep writing! This was a great piece.

I absolutely love this! Your rhyming is amazing. I would just recommend since this is faith related to capitalize all the “He”, because you’re referring to Allah. Great work!

I loved this one! So short and sweet and yet so powerful. It ties in with religion and faith and so much more which is also why I loved reading it. I just love the whole ask and receive of the poem. It flows very well. Please keep writing more!

    Pm,

I really liked your poem and I like how you wrote it about your faith as sometimes that’s hard to write about because of judgments etc. I wonder who your talking about whether its a person or something that happened in your life. I really liked your poem and I liked the repetition. Good Job! Good luck in the future.

This poem was a breath of fresh air! I absolutely loved your word choice and positivity. You expressed your spirituality and thankfulness so beautifully. There was a very nice flow and use of rhyming as well (lines 6 and 8). The message I received from your poem was that when you ask Allah for help, he is always there for you. Please continue to share your wonderful expressions through poetry with us! I really enjoyed reading this poem.

Hello PM – I am currently a student in a college English course called Writing and Community, where we focus on service learning and community outreach. We try to form connections outside of the university to enhance our learning and help those around us reach their goals. I really liked you poem. Even in a few short lines, you were able to convey a very important message. To me, this poem is a reminder of how important a person’s faith can be, in good times and bad. Faith can bring you more good than you are hoping for, and provides a source of comfort and security. I also liked the repetitive nature of your poem, as I thought it allowed to flow nicely from one line to the next. I hope you continue to write and use poetry as a way to express yourself and your faith. I wish you good fortune going forward!

    Hi PM
Thought I am not Muslim, I love this poem and understand it to an extent. I am a Christian so I understand asking my God and he will provide you with much more than you ask. I love the last stanza. Very romantic

    PM,

I really love this poem and its connection to faith and love. I think both can be very powerful in keeping people grounded, so it holds a very powerful message. I also appreciate how simple it is, because it makes this message stand out really well.

    PM,

Thank you for sharing your poem! I love the repetition of Allah giving you much more than you expected or asked for, and I think you encapsulate your love of him well. Also, while you didn’t have to do this, you do a great job expressing your faith in a way that is relatable to not only other Muslims, but people of all religions.

    PM,
I love the message of faith you’ve put in this poem. It truly shows me the trust that you put in Allah to provide you with what you need and shows me that he always provides you with more than you ask for. I admire that. You wrote a beautiful poem. I encourage you to continue writing and expressing your faith in this manner, because I feel that you have touched the hearts of so many people so far and will continue to touch the hearts of so many more with your words. I am a student in a community service course at Wayne State in Detroit whose goal is to engage with the community beyond the university. When I discovered Free Minds I was immediately thrilled to see the connections build around your writings and heart, and what you have to offer is a powerful and beautiful gift to the community. It was a true privilege getting the opportunity to read what is on your heart and mind, your desires and passions, thoughts and struggles. You have so much to say, so much wisdom to give, and such deep experiences and desires to share with the community that people from all walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs, and ages can deeply connect with and affiliate with. Keep engaging with the community and making your voice heard, you bring healing, hope, and renewal of mind to many who have the privilege to share in your poetry. In regards to your poem, I love how it highlighted God’s role as a provider and Father who knows our needs even more and to a greater extent than we know them. In a world that exists with pain and suffering, it becomes increasingly easy to doubt His goodness and grace saying things like “we don’t deserve this, Allah is not a good or just God.” But, something I always think about is that, in another sense, He really is not a just God. We got the gift of grace and salivation in response to our sin, not what we really deserved for that punishment. He made a way out for us, when we could not do anything to earn or deserve it, no matter how many good deeds or flawless lives we try to live. Something to ponder on and be grateful for.

    Hi PM,
I love this poem! It shows us that Allah is always there no matter. You may ask him for the smallest thing and he will provide you with much more. I am a Catholic that believes in God and when I read this I believed that this is how I view God in my as. It is such an amazing feeling knowing that someone is guiding you and helping you throughout your journey in life! This poem was terrific and I hope you continue this amazing talent that you have! Keep up your awesome work.

A simple yet beautifully constructed poem about a great subject. Times are rough, especially through what we have experienced throughout the past year or so and to have that reminder that someone is always watching over you is the great message of this poem. Thanks so much for sharing!

I actually really enjoyed the shortness and simplicity of the poem! It was straight to the point, but also very cute. My one recommendation would be only to use the “!!!” in the last line. Other than that, I loved the poem! I hope you continue to write.

  33. Jarraed Allen on June 17, 2021 at 3:04 PM

Your poem flowed effortlessly. I take from your poem that when things are in doubt, keeping and trusting in your faith helped guide you through. The last line I enjoyed because it can be interpret multiple ways. “He sent me you..”, are you talking about us the reader or a specific person? Good job and keep it going.

Howdy PM. I am a student currently enrolled in a class that helps communities out. I thought your poem was hopeful. It reminds me of the darker feelings I have, where I try to remain hopeful and faithful. I am a very religious man myself, and I often turn to religion for an answer when times are rough. It helps me out a lot, and I am glad it helps you out too. I also love the part where you incorporated the reader into the poem. It was very cute, and I enjoyed it. I think you have a powerful way of spreading joy through short poems. I think you should write more!

PM, brother, I thank you for your words, for they have touched my heart. Simple yet truthful in the mysterious ways in which Allah works within our lives. All imperfections are perfect within themselves as we are unable to see how they form our hearts. Only Allah knows what is to be of us, yet his constancy within our lives gives us the reassurance that we are loved and never alone.

This reminds me of when my mother told me the tale of my birth. My mother had no intention of planning anything, yet everything in this poem describes how she felt about me. She was constantly looking for someone who was just like her, someone that would not only show but also heal her with her difficulties. She told me all the time that I was more than she could have ever anticipated in her life.

  40. JB on April 8, 2022 at 2:59 PM

Love this poem! I think it gives hope to others and shows the good work of the one from above. When we ask for a little, he gives us more than we could think of! There are so many blessings that are obvious but even ones that we take for granted, so this poem was a reminder to be thankful for the things that I have. Thank you for sharing!

  41. Farah on April 28, 2022 at 11:01 AM

I love this one so much! It’s so simple, yet it holds so much meaning. It flows really nicely with the rhyming and the spacing. With the last few days of Ramadan upon us, this poem shows so much gratitude to Allah and all that He provides for us. I could definitely see this poem written in a greeting card or a published in a book. Wonderful job!

    PM,
the illustration of faith and a relationship with a god is shown perfectly in your writing. The rhyming is also done very well but subtle (which I like very much). Continue to have faith and keep writing!

This piece was short, yet beautiful. I admire that so deeply, because as a poet myself, I struggle to feel as though I am able to project my thoughts without prolonging the amount of words I write. I also love the connection between this piece and your personal experience with spirituality and faith. This is such a beautiful expression of love and I encourage you to keep writing. Thank you for sharing.

Hi PM, this poem made me smile. I like how it’s short but has such a message. I appreciate how you recognize how much Allah does for you, going above and beyond. I love the insinuation that the person Allah sent you, whether it’s the reader or a loved one, is above and beyond an angel. Keep being grateful and writing positivity like this!
