My Face

I think my face is only a disguise
2 hide the pain you cannot see
Because if my face was my heart
You’ll probably see a different
And another half of me is bitter
And another half is sweet
But I try 2 keep
My skeletons buried 6 feet
I am only 18 but my life is so deep
But from the view of my face
My secrets are kept 4 keeps…

“And another half of me is bitter
    And another half is sweet”

…so I was reading this and thinking:
Maybe you have a real big heart–
and maybe you have many, many faces.

    Dear author,
I really enjoyed your poem. I have come across this poem as part of a college course aimed at community engagement.
Your poem really speaks to the facade we as humans put up to please people. How you can feel so dead inside but your face can tell a whole different story if you play the role right. Depression makes so many humans not want to live and it is such a taboo to talk about that we alter our expressions to hid the fact we’re depressed. I can feel the pain in you poem. This might be a short poem but it comes across very clearly with the use of metaphors. It is a truly beautiful poem speaking about the power of mental illness.
Thank you so much for sharing this with the world!
