If I Had 3 Wishes
By JN
If I had 3 wishes
I would wish for forgiveness,
Love, kindness and peace
If I had 3 wishes
I would wish for no more handcuffs
In my life
If I had 3 wishes
I would wish for another opportunity,
Honor and a great path to take
To get home and stay home
If I had 3 wishes
I would try forgetting things
That are behind, forgetting my past
And pressing toward tomorrow
Forgetting yesterday and renewing my mind
And forgetting my mistakes and erasing all of my sorrow
If I had 3 wishes
I wish I can keep focusing on the new beginning
And new lease on life
Keep focusing on the present and everything in front of me
Keep focusing on the promise of a brighter day
Without strife and focusing on my future
And knowing that I am finally free
“I wish,” “I wish,” “I wish”
If I had 3 wishes?

Hi there!
This poem was powerful, and I love how reflective it was. I know what it’s like to wish that you could go back and change certain events in life, or certain things you said, or who you’ve let into your life. A lesson I’ve had to accept myself and that maybe could help you and anyone else who struggles with grappling with the things that have happened in the past, is that everything happens for a reason. Things may seem really hard, and they may seem as though they may never get better, but you are exactly where you need to be in life right now. I know that that may seem hard to believe, and while I know that not everyone may be religious or believe in God, I’m a person who does and I believe that everyone has a greater plan for their life and that eventually, everything will work out exactly how it’s supposed too. Sometimes we are faced with lessons and challenges so that we can learn from our mistakes and so that we can truly begin to understand our capabilities. Best wishes!
