Memory & Thoughts

By JS

It’s right there but I can’t grab it,
it was so beautiful when I had it,
I’ve hung my head down because
like the clouds in the sky when I tried to gather it up to something
it dissipated into nothing,
with nothing but moisture in my hands reminding me of the times when
I was a child and cried in pain from the things I wanted in my mind
but didn’t have.

A mother and father who thought well of each other,
sisters and brothers who showed they love one another.
memories that were more fleeting than a shooting star through the night sky
as real stars refuse to fall to earth standing firm
in the back lighting the night like the the thoughts in my head
urging me to raise my head and wipe my eyes.

as a child then and as a man now,
I look back to see the places I’ve fell down,
emboldened and empowered because I still stand and refuse to stand down.

For the sake of good memories and the potential in my mind
manifested by powerful thoughts,
that tell me all it takes is one time for me to leap to the sky and
never fall.
