My Free Minds Family
By AW
People encouraging people to
frolic with ideas, to take up
causes with themselves in
grasping the choices they
made to be happy or sad:
Self-determination.
Abyss of self, pulling in an
effort of self-discovery,
people encouraging people to
touch the fullness of their
heart, minds and soul via
reading and writing:
Communication.
My Free Minds Family is
made up of a hodgepodge
group of humanity, touching
and exploring the limitless
possibility of people encouraging
people, with the healing touch of
empathy, love, truth, peace, freedom,
justice and equality:
Served up with a lot of
faith and free form
creativity.

AW,
Thank you so much for sharing your work. I really liked this poem, especially when you explore the themes of community and family. I am eager for you to continue exploring these themes and many others. I can tell that the Free Minds group has been a strong presence in your life and I am glad. Thanks again.
Dear AW,
Wow, this was a great poem! I really enjoyed the way you talked about writing as a form of self-determination, in addition to communication. I also really enjoyed your word choices when talking about your Free Minds family, it helps readers get into the heart of the organization, what they stand for, and the great things they do for others. Thank you for sharing this poem.
This is my favorite poem I have read thus far! Poetry is such an amazing way to bring people together and I am so glad it has helped you and your friends. Creativity is so healing and freeing. May you continue to create and become closer with your family.
I love when you talk about your free mind family as a hodgepodge. I often think about the group of people who I love, and hodgepodge is a fantastic word to describe them. Having a group to rely on is a good feeling and each person is an equal piece to the greater whole; they love you as much as you love them. Great poem!
To AW, I think you found something really special and meaningful. I can relate to this. My sports team is a hodgepodge of individuals who make me stronger. I am so happy for you that you found people to listen to your creative words. Don’t stop building your support system because it can be one of the most important things you have in life.
Sincerely,
S
Dear AW,
Thank you for writing and sharing this poem. I particularly liked the stanza where you describe:
“Abyss of self, pulling in an
effort of self-discovery,
people encouraging people to
touch the fullness of their
heart,”
I like the idea that poem writing and sharing is an effort of self discovery and connection among people that encourages them to heal. This poem was so positive and included so many of the things that make writing and especially this particular project valuable. I also liked that you emphasized, “the limitless possibility of people encouraging people.” That’s an optimistic way to look at it and makes me appreciate the many who have encouraged me. I hope you keep writing and sharing more poems, because I really enjoyed this one and its positive message was really helpful to me.
Best,
JM
This is such an amazing poem. I like how you basically explained the word and then gave the word at the end of it. It was a really good in-depth poem! Keep on writing and never quit!
AW,
I love this poem!! I love how poetry and written word can really bring people together, and I’m really glad that you have had the opportunity to experience that! I love the style of the poem with ending each stanza with a short word or phrase. I appreciate you sharing how you feel about this program! Thank you so much, and keep writing!
I am a student in a community service course at Wayne State in Detroit whose goal is to engage with the community beyond the university. When I discovered Free Minds I was immediately thrilled to see the connections build around your writings and heart, and what you have to offer is a powerful and beautiful gift to the community. It was a true privilege getting the opportunity to read what is on your heart and mind, your desires and passions, thoughts, and struggles. You have so much to say, so much wisdom to give, and such deep experiences and desires to share with the community that people from all walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs, and ages can deeply connect with and affiliate with. Keep engaging with the community and making your voice heard. You bring healing, hope, and renewal of mind to many who have the privilege to share in your poetry. Your poem is so beautifully written, and you last paragraph speaks to me. The fact that Free Minds is such a diverse platform of people from all walks of life, and that it is a middle ground for people to make self-discoveries, be challenged, encouraged, inspired, healed, and touched is such a powerful thing. It speaks volumes to what poetry, art, and written works can to to unite humanity around beauty. Keep up the good fight, thank you for your gift to the community and world.
To AW,
