Stand Up
By RD
Stand up because if not God no one should you be bowing to!
We all have one mind so no one should be thinking for you
I said stand up! Don’t let no one break your spirits
Stand up, because don’t think no one else is going to stand up for you!
Speak your mind; don’t be a copy cat like a parrot
Stand up! don’t fold; don’t bend; this is not origami
Stand up! don’t give up; if you want to cry go, to your mommie
Stand up! you are your own person; you are your own army

I like the last three lines especially– the way each one punches you with the same “Stand up!” and then lowers you back down before pulling you straight up again. Love the origami image, as well as “you are your own army.” Absolutely right!
You are an army of one! Stand up, be free, be righteous. Believe.
Hi RD,
Dang…I needed to read this today! I think a lot of us have trouble remembering we are our own person, and the only way we are going to live the life we want and be who we want to be is by finding the courage to speak up for ourselves. I know I for sure forget that a lot! We have to be our own biggest fan! Not to mention, you kept a rhyme scheme through the whole thing and that can be hard to do, nice writing! Keep up the great work and keep speaking your mind!
