Poem: “World Full of Dreams”

World Full of Dreams

I’m a little seed in this world full of dreams

Waiting to grow out to be someone real important

So many significant figures stood up and died

For what they dreamed and believed

If you really want to achieve something great

These dreams are in the air floating invisibly

All you have to do is close you eyes and grasp it

And hold on to it till the end.

This is a great little poem. I really like how expressive it is. The word choices are very visual. I like how the author takes a concept like dreams and aspirations and makes it concrete using words like “seeds” and “air.” I would encourage the author in this work or in future poems to try to make the message even more concrete. It is incredibly difficult to express feelings and concepts in ways that open a reader’s heart. The best way to do it is through the use of concrete language and examples, and the use of metaphor.

Also, in a poem like this, you can play with the word “dream.” A dream is two different things – it is an aspiration, which is the sense that the poem uses it in, and it is also a literal dream – the phantasm encountered at night while asleep. What kinds of ideas might be explored by playing on this ambiguity?

I look forward to seeing what kinds of ideas the author comes up with in revised versions of this poem or in future works. Thanks for sharing.

Its a good poem I think it can be a little longer and be more heartfelt

I think the shortness is a good thing here. The shortness of the poem works with the metaphor with the seed and the idea of potential to be great, but not yet. You have a full thought there in your poem and I think making it longer might just be drawing it out too much. It’s an impression right now, a single thought to hold onto.

I think this is great. I like the feeling of potential and growth that are in every line. The idea that even the greatest and most significant “stood up and died”, makes it seem like greatness and significance are available to everyone. They are. I also really like the idea that those great people, and their inspiration, are somehow still left behind for the rest of us to “grasp”–that is, that inspiration and ideas are real things. It’s like the author is expressing accessible inspiration, rather than being afraid of it.

I think this poem could benefit from some more imagery–For example, what are ‘invisible dreams’? How do they feel? How can you feel them if they’re invisible? What about the grasping–I love this–but I get the feeling that there’s more emotion in that grasping than the author is letting on.

This is a great poem, one which clearly shows the author’s ability to think deeply and creatively. I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you.

What I like most about this poem is the idea that dreams are immediately available in the sense that they are all around like the wind and the first step is simply grasping them. They are invisible, like you say, but you can grasp them if you believe they do exist.

I also get the feeling that dreams and one’s life events are like the wind, because they come from forces you can’t control, but you can harness those forces and grab on to them to reach your dreams. I think it’s inspiring!

Hello my name is hector. i am 16 years old and currently working on a project about juvenile justice.
well i think this poem about dreams was really good because any one can connect to it in many levels. i personally feel as thought i have dreams but it’s always hard to achieve them. it’s always easy to dream but putting the effort some times is very hard to do. hearing a poem that says go out there and get that dream is an inspiration. i find it hard to achieve every single one. i want to thank you for writing a poem to inspire the readers to chase dreams and never let go of them.

    To the author,

I am a fan of the brevity of your poem. It concisely summarizes your view on dreams and how to attain them. While I agree with other commenters that dreams are difficult to achieve, having the mindset, regardless of situation, is important to not losing hope.

Thank you for taking the time to write this! It is our dreams that drive us. Store them up and nurture them, and hopefully one day you will grasp them. Continue to encourage others to do the same through your writing! We hear you!
