Ancestors
By CD
You’ve sweat, bled, and worked diligently
To provide and survive.
You’ve fought endlessly for equal rights,
love, respect and what defines moral standards.
You sung songs, wrote words of wisdom,
poetry, gave stories and taught us well.
l love the history you gave us.
I love the food you shared.
I love you entirely,
Ancestors!
I live through you in every measure,
And will commence to define your greatness.
As blank paper awaits to be filled for the next,
Ancestors!

I really enjoy how this poem reflects on the impact that our ancestors have on us today. Everything from the food, the language, and the culture within us is because of those who came before us. Soon we will be the next generation’s ancestors.
It is very motivational, heartfelt, and full of thought. However, it could have been longer. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This poem is very eye opening and inspiring. It has a very simple premise with a strong focus on ancestry. it does not only speak to personal and direct ancestors, but all ancestors who may have suffered through the course of history. Your words acknowledge those of the past who may not be here now to speak on their personal experience and reveal the recognition that those who worked tirelessly for us now truly deserve. How I interpreted the last line is that one day we will be the ancestors of the next century, and we should strive to uphold the same legacy of our own ancestors so we can get the recognition we deserve. overall, a very eye-opening poem that easily reveals an idea that all should be aware of.
Your poem is a beautiful tribute to the strength and wisdom of those who came before. The gratitude and admiration shine through, making it feel both personal and universal.

This poem deeply resonates with me because it talks about what their ancestors have done for them. The first paragraph talks about the ancestors that have fought for rights, wisdom, and gave us life. It uses repetition, symbolism, and a strong yet emotional tone to deliver a beautiful poem on the sacrifices of ancestors.

With my family being immigrants this hits close to home. Very well written.
With my family immigrating to the US so recently, this poem hits very close to home and is a real struggle and a great legacy to leave for a family and history. Nicely written.
I love the use of repetition here. So impactful for the poem.

The imagery of blank paper waiting to be filled is such a lovely way to show how their legacy continues through us. It’s a moving and inspiring piece — a perfect celebration of history, love, and honor.
