Almost There
By DC
Half way to my destination
But don’t know where I’m headed
Two steps back was like hell
So I’ma keep walking til I regret it
A lot of dreams left behind
And I’m mad I can’t obtain them
My life is like a gallery of half-painted pictures
That I won’t finish painting
But why am I so rebellious?
My upbringing was good
I had plenty ways out
I made myself stuck in the hood|
I can hear my mom’s now
“Boy, you gon’ learn the hard way”
Wisdom sure out beat youth
‘Cause that brick wall hurt
But I got another chance
‘Cause instead of jail
It could’ve been dirt

I love the way DC takes responsibility for his own behavior when he writes, “I had plenty ways out, I made myself stuck in the hood.” Very powerful recognition that things could have been worse at the end. DC might have learned the hard way, but HE LEARNED, and now it is time to move on to something better. Best of luck!
This is powerful and thought-provoking.
Well written! I will pray for you, DC.
The first step is accepting, and you accept and wish to move forward. This is inspiring. Keep writing DC!
Powerful imagery of a gallery of unfinished paintings. I would bet a lot of people could relate to that image.
Great work.
This poem has lots of perseverance and courage. Constantly pushing forwards and never looking back is the key to success. You can use your past mistakes to better your future, but you can’t change what has already happened. Pushing yourself for success is the best kind of perseverance because you’re doing something such as a goal. You got this and remember the best is yet to come!
