A Better Man
By SK
They judge from what they hear
And don’t know who I am
In my own shoes I stand
A strong and better man
The person I use to be
Ain’t got nothing on the new me
Wow—as I look back on my old life
How could I be a better man like Christ?
I went from a pebble to a rock to a boulder
I went from young, dumb, and all about fun
To wise older and bolder
Now I’m warm when it gets colder
Keep the past behind me
And don’t look over my shoulder
For I am a better man!

I really love the comparison of yourself from a pebble, to a rock, to a boulder. I can envision you not only growing physically larger, but also more powerful when you become the boulder. The boulder is able to roll over problems or obstacles, crushing them and leaving them behind. Great job, keep it up!
I really like the last part of this poem, with the many ways you describe your growth. It’s cool how you put a physical image (pebble to rock to boulder) next to describing the changes inside you (to wise older and bolder) and blend them together with boulder/bolder that sound the same but mean different things. It would be great to hear more about what sorts of things have changed about you and how being wiser will change how you make decisions. Congrats on a great poem and on continuing to grow and get stronger!
