Virtual Write Night: March 25

Free Minds is hosting our first-ever virtual On the Same Page: Write Night, on March 25, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm EST!

With the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic, now more than ever it is crucial that Free Minds members are able to share their voices and know they are not alone. While COVID-19 might have put a halt to our daily lives, we will not let it halt our monthly Write Night. On March 25, we will host our inaugural Virtual Write Night through Miro. It’s the same process, just virtual. All you need is a computer or tablet and an internet connection. The board will be live from 6:30-8:00 pm EST and you can access poems from our members using any of the links below:

Once you’ve read the poems at one table, feel free to hop over to another table! All you have to do is click on the link.

*Table 2 includes poetry from our Spanish book club!

A Few Tips:

  • There is a sidebar on the screen with all of the tools you will need.
  • Use the “T” for “text” to add a comment on one of the poems–just click on the “T” then click wherever you want to type your message!
  • You can change the font, color, and size of your text.
  • All of your edits will save automatically.
  • Don’t be afraid to mess up! There is an undo button if you make a mistake.
  • Address the author by their first name and sign off using your first name.
  • Remember that this is not a grammar class. We are here to encourage and thank the author for sharing their work.
  • Still have questions? There is a chat button on the bottom of the screen and staff will be online from 6:30-8:00 pm to assist you in any way they can. You can also call us at 202-795-9657.

This program is truly amazing and the young people in it give me power to keep working as a social worker.

This set up for the poetry blog was much too complicated for me to follow. I’m 75 years old and not tekkie……I really wanted to participate……

Hi Ann, we’re so sorry to hear that the format was challenging for you! Thank you for your feedback. We’re all exploring new ways to conduct our programs online in this time of social distancing. We’ll continue to work on it for the next Write Night in April, and hope that you can participate then. In the meantime, you can always comment on our poetry blog: https://freemindsbookclub.org/poetry-blog
