Wisdom
Is it strange that 90% of humans
see the wisdom
and promises of life
and don’t acknowledge it?
They don’t reach for the goal
that is dull
yet worth more
They reach for the shiny
worthless gold the kind
that doesn’t promise to love, care, heal
They want the money, sex, drugs,
and worthless life gold
Is it strange that they don’t look inside themselves?
and get something that is truly worth something

I like the contrast between shiny gold and dull goals. Well done! I find your use of random punctuation interesting in this poem. Is this used to show chaos? That was my initial interpretation. Your theme of introspection and the inherent selfishness and shallowness of humanity is very well done. It takes a great person to strive for what is truly important, and you have certainly captured that in your poem.
This is an interesting poem because it’s reflective of other people, not necessarily the author (though we might wonder if the author considers himself among the 90% or not). I liked the thoughtful ideas of the poem a great deal.
In the last line, the word “something” is used twice. I’m not crazy about this and would like to see a more specific word, and to avoid the reuse of a word. Same thing with the use of the word “gold” in the poem. It’s used as a metaphor, which is great, but using it twice is maybe too much.
I really like the metaphors throughout the poem, also there are some bits of rhyme that give it some rhythm, and I enjoyed the contrast of shiny gold and dull goals.
Great poem!
This is an incredibly accurate poem that epitomizes why individuals jump to excuses rather than take responsibility for their actions. We look to find the easy shortcut route rather than enduring the long and hard-fought journey. We as humans have to learn to put things that are most important into perspective. Ask ourselves, “At the end of the day, what really matters the most?”. I can tell that you are a very wise individual and I wish you nothing but peace in your future.
The accuracy of this poem in terms of today! I agree that people focus a lot on money and fame rather than trying to be good people. I wish times could revert back!
Thank you for writing! It was amazing to read, and I hope to see more poems someday!

Your poem speaks beautifully to the contrast between chasing superficial desires and seeking true inner fulfillment. It’s a powerful reminder that the most valuable things in life—love, wisdom, and peace—are often found within, not in what glitters on the outside. Thank you for sharing such an insightful reflection, I enjoyed reading your poem!
It’s really thought-provoking to consider how many people chase after the superficial instead of what truly matters. It’s like they’re missing out on the deeper, more meaningful aspects of life. Your words really make you think about what’s truly valuable.
