The Struggle
By RW
As I pace back and forth in my cell
I’m incarcerated but my mind is free
The door is locked but I got the key
I’m looking, but I can’t see
Dreams turn into reality
If loyalty and patience was a person
It would have been me
I never knew I was at the bottom
Until I made it to the top
My life is harder than a rock
My past is darker than the dark
(The struggle don’t stop)
“I shine even in the dark”
I don’t even worry
About the time I’m facing
(My head is always up even in the worst situation)
I endure hardships with patience!

You have something special inside of you that no man can take, that can’t be shut in with any door, something so valuable not even oppression can shake. God has given you a seed of greatness and the world is waiting for you to bloom.
It is said “He who knows no hardships will know no hardihood. He who faces no calamity will need no courage. Mysterious though it is, the characteristics in human nature which we love best grow in a soil with a strong mixture of troubles.”
Keep pressing RW. You’re season is coming
Dear RW,
Your words are inspiring to me and to anyone else who has a goal or is faced with a challenge. You said it: loyalty, patience and endurance; may we all learn these qualities! As you wrote it, your light does shine in the darkness, bringing warmth and brightness to others. Thank you for sharing your courage and strength–and making your positivity contagious!
This poem is powerful and persuasive. The wording in this poem is very creative, I like the first three lines. You have free thoughts but your knowledge is limited because you are caught walking back and forth in your cell. You can hope for the better and see how you want to act, but taking that action is the challenging part. You can dream of a better future but you have to want to change and grow to be successful. Having patience is the key and over time you will power through. Your past is the past and you can’t change that, so put your focus on bettering your future. You got this and remember the best is yet to come!
