New Day

It’s a new day for a new way
But I’m still stuck in my old ways
Why can’t I change, why do I stray?
Is not the question that I need today
When will I change is
But it’s hard to say
As my mind slips away
Bit by bit
I want to give up
I want to quit
But my will keeps pumpin’
My mind keeps running
And my heart keep thumpin’
It’s a new day for a new way

I like the way you began and ended this poem with the same line. That gives a good structure to the whole thing. Keep writing!

I love this–so powerful. Because the rhyming is so steady throughout the poem, when you drop a phrase that doesn’t rhyme with the others, all of a sudden the audience is just captivated by it. We hear it louder, pay attention to it closer. And you are so right to draw our attention to the most important question to ask oneself: “when will I change?” Counting the times you mess up won’t help you, but counting the times you change will.

    Awesome poem!

Your poem beautifully captures the inner conflict between wanting to change and feeling stuck in old habits. The tension between giving up and the resilience that keeps you moving forward is powerful. The rhythm of your words mirrors the steady pulse of hope, pushing through the struggle for a fresh start. Wonderful job!
