Judged

Old ladies see me
and hold their purses tight
little kids see me
and take off running
police see me
and harass me quick
girlfriend calls my home
with a whole bunch of BS
judges see me
and shake their head
but God looks down
as I make my bed
but when I look in the mirror
I see exactly what everyone sees

Prejudice sits deep in the mind, so deep that most people don’t even know it’s there. But it’s an ailment of our society, and one of the most devastating consequences is how it affects the minds of the young. Before they even know themselves they’re made to feel like less than they are. And you, you’re self-aware. You see the way they look at you and treat you and know it’s wrong and yet you still can’t help but internalize the negativity. It’s going to take a lot of self-reflection to stand strong about who you are and want to be when the world doesn’t seem to have your back. Keep writing please. People need to have the injustice of their prejudices towards others and themselves pointed out–the unconscious needs to be made conscious. Poetry, like this, is such a good way to do that.

this poem was beautiful. as a former addict this explains exactly how I felt and still feel at times. everyone judges you because of how you look or your past and you start to beleive all the bad things they say are true. its hard to shake that feeling that your no good, but you have to beleive that you are. if you think your bad, you’ll start acting bad, and that leads nowhere good. god bless

I see a person who has obviously been hurt, but more than that I see potential.

What a terrible thing to go through but I love how you use your hate and make such a beautiful poem.
