Family

Family is people
who is there for you no matter what.
Even if you wrong
or right they would be there
to put up a fight.
Sometimes in life I feel alone
but when I talk to my family
they say I‘m wrong.
Family is all I need
to keep my life going
and try to succeed.
I sit and ask myself who else
I need? nobody but family.
When a family member calls me
about problems I be there so quick
to help them solve them.
In this world all I need is family and me.

Family is often the one unit that is there for us when no one else is. In our darkest hours, they are the ones that sit on the frontlines alongside us. I have nine cousins that range from the age of 11 to 34. They are the ones that I look to for support, comfort, and happiness above all else. Recently, I lost an aunt due to ALS. A terminal illness that eventually takes the life of its victim over the course of a number of years. It is an inevitable fate that sits at your front doorstep. Patiently waiting. During her final years, We would all band together. For better or worse, family is there to be with you no matter the circumstance.

    June 10, 2011,

I 100% agree with you. Family should always come first. Family is priority. When you feel like no one loves you, you’re wrong. Family will always love you. Always treat your family right, you will see the same.

Thank you for your vulnerability! Family is such a blessing. I hope we always cherish those we are born around. I also hope we can make families through out life by spreading love and encouragement to those we aren’t related to. Keep encouraging others!

I am a student in a community service course at Wayne State in Detroit whose goal is to engage with the community beyond the university. When I discovered Free Minds I was immediately thrilled to see the connections build around your writings and heart, and what you have to offer is a powerful and beautiful gift to the community. It was a true privilege getting the opportunity to read what is on your heart and mind, your desires and passions, thoughts, and struggles. You have so much to say, so much wisdom to give, and such deep experiences and desires to share with the community that people from all walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs, and ages can deeply connect with and affiliate with. Keep engaging with the community and making your voice heard. You bring healing, hope, and renewal of mind to many who have the privilege to share in your poetry. I could not agree more with your reflection on the importance of family. Family is the most underappreciated and overlooked value to our lives, at times, but they are the only people in the world who know us and stick by us. Friends come and go, people unfortunately get divorces from their spouses, and old childhood friends grow up and move away. But family, will always be a part of us, the good and ugly, the wonderful and the division, the love and the pain. I have thought this too, that I do not need anybody but family satisfy me and make me feel a part of community. I have been blessed with a huge Middle Eastern family which many people cannot say they have. Thank you for reminding me how blessed and grateful I am to have family for all I need.

My family, blood related or not, are my support system. This poem really spoke to me because true family are the ones who always have your back. Your poem describing your love for them is beautiful. Keep writing and loving them so!

Family is always there and your poem conveys that. I am happy you have comfort and love with your family and stay connected. Never lose touch with them, and keep writing to them and for them, your writing is great.

I enjoyed this poem! This poem spoke to me because family is one of the things that I value the most in this world. I think you did an excellent job of capturing what it means to be family. I thought it was a good idea for you to provide several examples of what it means to be family. A few examples would be when you put, “Family is people who is there for you no matter what” and, “When a family member calls me about problems I be there so quick to help them solve them.” I can also personally relate to the message that you are conveying through your poem. I, too, have felt a sense of loneliness before. When these times happen, my family immediately reminds me that I’m loved and not alone. I liked how you incorporated “family” several times throughout the poem. I think the author doing so drives the point he’s trying to convey sticks with the reader. Overall I thought you did an excellent job of getting your point across to the reader.

This is a great poem to describe family and how much family means to a person. Family is truly the one who will not fail you at the end of the day. My favorite quote from this poem is “Family is all I need to keep my life going and try to succeed.” It is great to be motivated and do everything for your family because they will not fail you. Beautiful poem, and keep up the great work!

Family is so important. The love and compassion you possess for your family is so strong and well conveyed through your words. I agree that amongst all other things in the world, family is the one consistent. I have moved many times as a child and throughout starting at new schools and making new friends, my family was always there. The unconditional love we have for and receive from our families is like nothing else.

I love this poem because it talks about the importance of family. Family is such a vital part of our support system and life, without family our loves would be so sad and this poem perfectly depicts the impact family has on us. Through thick & thin, family is there and you said this so well. Family will be there when you need ANYTHING and when a family member needs you… you’re right there which is why blood is said to be thicker than water. Loyalty to family is like no other. Once again, this poem was beautiful. Seems as if you really value your family and that is very wholesome. I wish the best for you and writing.
