Broken Promises
I have broken many promises
and have ruined peoples lives
Never met my emotions
or just ain’t take time to say hi
The promises I made may all seem like lies
When I’m down no ones around
but when I’m up they are like flies
broken promises can be repaired
once I’m finished with this time

This shows a real emotional honesty. It is difficult to put yourself out there like this, and you depict your innermost feelings amazingly well. The regret and pain come through so clearly in this poem. Well done, sir. You’ve given yourself a roadmap to success, keeping promises, and I can only hope you allow yourslef to follow this map to a new life. You’ve show you are willing to be honest with yourself, and I find that is often the most difficult form of honesty. Your use of simile comparing people to flies is incredibly imaginative. When your speaker says “When I’m down no ones around / but when I’m up they are like flies” shows the base nature of humanity and its self-centered orientation. People only want to be around someone on top, and this can be the downfall of many young men like you. Just realize that it never matters what others think. The only person you are truly accountable to is yourself.
First of all, thank you. This is not easy to write about and most wouldn’t. “When I’m down no ones around” – Powerful!
I feel similar in some ways, especially with my emotions, very tricky! I wish you the best and thank you for writing!
That’s really deep. It sounds like you’re reflecting on some tough experiences. It’s true, though—broken promises can be mended, and there’s always a chance for a fresh start. Stay strong and keep moving forward!
