Betrayed
You told me,
“I’ll hold you down, I got your back, I’ll be here until the end”
“No matter what, thru thick and thin, I’ll always be your friend”
“When times get rough and things go bad, you can always count on me”
“Just trust my word, have some faith, and my promises I will keep”
But you let me down, you left be hanging, I thought you were my friend.
Thru thick and thin, no matter what, I thought you’d be here until the end…
When things went bad, and times got rough, I really counted on you,
I trusted your word, had faith and your promises never came true…
Then you told me,
“If ever you’re lost, just call and I’ll guide you thru the maze”
“My love and support will always be here, every single day”
“And when there’s danger have no fear, I’ll never leave you stranded”
“Whenever you need me, I’ll be right here, you’ll never feel abandoned”
But I called when I got lost and you didn’t even answer,
Your deceiving and deceitful ways are killing slow like cancer…
You left me stranded, I feel abandoned, every single day,
What did I do to deserve those lies? Why was I betrayed…

I’m going to be honest. When I was linked to this site, I didn’t expect much. I thought it would be like reading any poetry from a middle school or high school kid. It’s usually not that good.
But all of the poetry here is amazing. I especially like the format here: “you told me”/”but you”. It makes for a really emotional delivery. Well done.
Wow, this is really great stuff. The idea behind this website is really awesome as well. This is a great site.
I liked this poem, it’s realistic and downbeat but it has clarity and is well written
Absolutely touching. As with the last poster, I truly didn’t think it would be much when I was linked here, but honestly I’m really glad I was. These poems are all great, including this one. The rhythm and tone really fits well with the theme. I hope you keep writing!

Oh man, that was an incredible poem. Beautiful rhythm, hearfelt words. Using conversation pieces brought your writing to life. More, please.
This poem really stuck out to me. It is a great poem, very personal and really heartfelt. On an emotional level, it really depicts the feeling of what it is like to be betrayed by someone you thought was there for you. This is such a common feeling and unfortunately, in someway or another, many people have experience this on some level at some point in their lives. Talking about the feelings that betrayal provokes, shows people that they are not alone in this experience. This poems really provokes a shared understanding, which is so important in dealing with difficult experiences like betrayal.
In addition, there are so many literary mechanisms at play here that make this an outstanding poem. I really like the quoting actual conversations; it makes the poem personal. I admire the usage of rhyming; this is always a great tactic to get the poem to flow nicely.
The words paint a picture as described so surreal and heart felt. I can only imagine what the writer is going through and facing based off his story telling, although I can say this literature is brilliant.
