Free Minds along with Building Community Not Prisons will share about the devastating impact a new proposed prison in Letcher County, Kentucky will have. Send comments directly to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. We need thousands of comments sent in by the deadline: April 15, 2024.
If built, the close proximity of this new Bureau of Prisons (BOP) facility to DC means that DC residents would likely spend their sentences there. The proposed location in Letcher County, Kentucky has no airport and no bus terminal and is only accessible by an 8 hour costly car ride from the DC area. Studies prove that social connections are vital to successful reentry. A new prison will only continue the current isolation DC residents in the BOP experience. We need community investments, not more incarceration. Join us April 9 in conversation on the impact of this prison and to write to Congress.
