Growing Up
By DG
Troubled thoughts, troubled actions
Back and forth, over and over
Makin’ decisions, changing decisions
One foot in, one foot out
Try’na change but hard to get out
Changing surroundings, changing peers
How easy it is when you’re lookin’ in
Inside the box, outside the box
Is this what I’m all about?
Searching and asking
Lookin’ and finding
Time to change
Time to grow

I really like the hopeful and the melancholy vibe this has 🙂
This is beautiful– it really feels like someone being pulled in two different directions. I also like the “look” of the poem, how the lines get shorter and shorter all the way to the end, as though the tugging and the pain is getting harder to deal with. Then a great, positive ending!
This poem is emotional and persistent, which makes it nice to read. Growing up is something we dream about as kids, but once we are at the cusp of leaving the nest we take a step back. Reaching that chapter in life is something some people don’t get to experience; it can be emotional and challenging. Life wouldn’t be enjoyable if it was easy. Change is hard, you might lose the people around you because you’re moving on and growing up, but its important to cherish the memories you had and create many more. You got this and remember the best is yet to come!
