Promises To Keep
I made a promise to my mother that I’ll be more than just a face on the streets
But when will I wake up to the promises I didn’t keep?

Wow, this was….this was so incredibly moving. Somehow I can’t really believe it’s only two lines, it really left a huge impact on my mind. The image of promises made to one’s mother, and that of waking up to unkept promises was really powerful and effective. These two lines had so much to say and are of the kind that opens a huge avenue to thoughts, questions, answers and musings in one’s mind. They was thought-provoking to say the least. They felt like the beginning of a journey…if that makes sense?
You show a real self-awareness here. You can ask yourself when you will “wake up to the promises [you] didn’t keep,” and that is some incredibly mature introspection. You realize you broke your word, you understand your own incomprehension, yet you are able to look at all this objectively. This is such a powrful poem, and it is made all the more powerful by its brevity.
Extremely powerful for a short poem! “I’ll be more than just a face on the streets” – I think this is a common misconception about the streets!
I hope one day you can make those promises right! I wish you the best of luck and great poem!
