Untitled (“We were lying in your…”)

We were laying in your
Bed looking at the wall
The sun was dipping lower, I
Looked into your eyes.
You saw what I was feeling, and I
Know you felt it too.
We wanted time to just stand still,
Then forever there would be me & you
Why can’t we freeze this moment, return to it in time
Stay together thru the years, let it be known
That I’m yours & you’re mines.
So let us freeze this moment, store it
Safely away
Even if we leave this place we’ll return to it
when you come home you know what you do 2 me
You’re the only person that keeps me up.

Thank you for sharing this! Moments in relationships can be so powerful. What a blessing it is to have this intimacy and connection with someone. Keep writing!

I am a student in a community service course at Wayne State in Detroit whose goal is to engage with the community beyond the university. When I discovered Free Minds I was immediately thrilled to see the connections build around your writings and heart, and what you have to offer is a powerful and beautiful gift to the community. It was a true privilege getting the opportunity to read what is on your heart and mind, your desires and passions, thoughts, and struggles. You have so much to say, so much wisdom to give, and such deep experiences and desires to share with the community that people from all walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs, and ages can deeply connect with and affiliate with. Keep engaging with the community and making your voice heard. You bring healing, hope, and renewal of mind to many who have the privilege to share in your poetry. For me your poem reminds me of reading a good book in a quite space and feeling like time is standing still, just me and the book frozen in time. In contrast, this poem is about love and reminded me a little of the country song “Ten Thousand Hours.” When you love something or someone enough you WILL spend 10,000 hours with them or doing things for them. It is a testament of love that we sacrifice; those go hand and hand.

So beautiful and picturesque, love can be a solider. Love can be so bold to hold on to and I’m glad you have that. Relationships can be so cherishing and sometimes the light to look to in moments of confusion and uncertainty. Only a fabulous writer can capture that which you’ve done.
