Waiting To Belong
By MS
Time stands still…pause
I’m stuck in a place
Where the food isn’t right
I can’t sleep at night
Physically my body don’t belong
But I’m young and smart
And choose to free my mind
Capture the real picture
It’s crazy, I’m at a state
Where the people who I once loved
Are all acting fake
Some say it’s fate
But at the end of the day
When you’re somewhere you don’t belong
All you can do is wait
Be patient, don’t stress
Have faith, continue the struggle
And let your mind be your muscle

I love the approach to life in this poem. 🙂
The rap rhythm and rhyme works fine
At times is sublime–
Let’s me know someone doing time
Is exercising his mind
To muscle his way free
So he can belong
Where he can be.
You are right–it’s wrong to be some place you don’t belong. “Be patient, don’t stress, have faith…” Good advice for all of us!
“Let your mind be your muscle.” Brilliant and thought-provoking. Illustrates the power of saying a lot using just a few words.
The last five lines of the poem are by far my favorite. They are so wise. Instead of anger, there’s patience; instead of frustration, there’s hope. Keeping this attitude throughout your life will serve you well, no matter what situation you’re in. And always, always let your mind be your muscle. Keep exercising it by reading and writing!
This poem is compelling and I can connect to it on many levels. Many of us want to be loved and treasured in society. We shouldn’t have to change ourselves for the community because society will adapt to us and if others around you don’t respect you for you, then you’re in the wrong group. Most people including me have been fake before, without even trying to. We want to try and fit in, but trying to change is not fitting in. You got this and remember the best is yet to come!
