The Hollow Tree
by: GD
Birds chirping, leading us through
The path of freedom
We walked the path of many struggles
Stories of cries, stories of smiles
The hollow tree is where many souls lie

I like how you establish the forest imagery (birds chirping) in the first line and continue it in the last (hollow tree). The first four lines seem hopeful (though I wanted to understand more about who “we” are). Then, with the image of souls lying in the hollow tree, I had a sense of loss, abandonment–a dramatic turn-around. What happened, I wondered.
You walked through the path of freedom, but many souls got stuck in the hollow tree and remained forever. Why is that? What did they do wrong? Was it the vagaries of chance, or did they make a fatal error?
Mysterious poem with strong image-rhythms. I hope to see more.
