You’ll See
What am I doing in a cell?
I should be home getting ready to go to school instead of trying to make bail.
I realize my mistakes and that is good to know.
I’ve changed and I want to do better, but first I have to get home.
I see things differently now I won’t do wrong.
I know people say they not going go home and do the same thing.
But stupid they be and go do the same thing.
It won’t be me, I’m not going back out there and do the stupidity.
I’m going to go to school and get as educated as I can be.
I just need you to believe in me, on TV I will be you will see!

I love the story behind this poem and the mindset that you have. It is good that you are aware of your mistakes and that you don’t want to fall back into bad habits. I also think it will be very beneficial for you to go to school, as you said, and I wish you the best. Just remember that this bad time in life will pass, and you will get your freedom soon.
“But stupid they be and go do the same thing.” It’s true, but sometimes it’s the environment they are in and how much the justice system does to help that person re-join society.

This poem is very motivating and creates hope. Positivity can go a long way and even though things might not always go as planned, we can take what we learned and use it to better ourselves instead of letting it dwell on us. The line that stood out to me was the last one which was when you said “I just need you to believe in me, on TV I will be you will see!” This goes to show by setting goals, people are more motivated to accomplish things knowing that there is a positive outcome at the end. Great poem and keep up the amazing work!
Whenever I read poems about someone wanting to learn from their mistakes rather than to keep making them, it makes me happy for them. I am so sorry that you ended up in this situation due to your past mistakes, but I am glad you have learned something from this and want to change your behavior. I can tell you have good intentions in life and also have a great heart. It is quite incredible how sometimes our lowest points in life ironically are what change our perspective to allow us to see a better light.
Hi – I enjoyed reading your poem. My first thoughts while reading this piece were that this sounds like someone who is ready to get back out into the world and make something of themselves. The writer sounds very motivated and I think that is a great feeling to write about. Hi there! I think it’s really inspiring that during the time you’ve been incarcerated, you haven’t focused on the negative aspects of things although I’m sure your experiences have been really tough. I think that it takes a strong person to realize and admit the mistakes that they’ve made, that’s something that not a lot of people know how to do or want to do. I think that the power and the mindset and behavior change all starts from within you, and I believe that if you say that you don’t want to be a statistic, if you don’t want to be a person who says they will change but doesn’t, and you truly believe that in your heart, then you can create any change that you want. I hope that you can forgive yourself for the mistakes you have made, because that’s where your journey will begin. Keep fighting!
