We Gotta Be Strong

We gotta learn to be strong
We gotta know right from wrong
We all make stupid mistakes
We all cried for days that could turn into lakes
We all need to take a deep breathe
Being strong will make us invincible to pain
Life surely isn’t to be taken as a game
Being strong will help us understand
We all gotta know where we stand

LB, I like the two lines about crying and creating lakes–and we know we can’t breathe under a lake of tears! But then you follow that line by saying “we all need to take a deep breath.” Yeah. Sometimes i have to stop myself and take a deep breath. Just breathe. Thanks for sharing.
The title reminds me of something my mom used to say to me every night before I went to bed when I was little: “What are we? Strong!” It´s important to remind ourselves of this– that we gotta be strong, and that we ARE strong. I really appreciate the universality of your poem, using “we all” to include everyone, because we all struggle, and everyone does need to hear this!

Thank you for sharing your poem. I like how your poem is all about “we” – that we are all in this together and that people are never alone in their experiences, and struggling to deal with them. I love the imagery in this line “We all cried for days that could turn into lakes.” You have painted a picture in my mind when I read that line. Please keep writing, I want to read more!

Hi LB. I liked this one for it’s simplicity. The line “Being strong will make us invincible to pain” stuck out. I believe pain can be an invaluable teacher. The important thing is knowing how to accept or cope with that pain so it does not become overwhelming. Kindof like, don’t drown in that lake of tears, but look at it’s reflection and learn from what it shows you 🙂 Take care, stay strong. And keep writing!

Learning to be strong is a lesson that everyone must learn. It is something that cannot be taught but something that is developed overtime. It is often the mistakes and times that we have done something wrong that drive us to be better. We hate reminiscing on prior bad experiences and aim never to be in that situation again. That is what life is all about, learning to get back up when you are knocked down.

Everyone makes mistakes. Don’t take it too hard on yourself for the inevitable. We all aren’t perfect. When mistakes happen, learn from them instead of getting disappointed. Be strong and keep pushing yourself for the better.
