When you feel sad
I wish you happiness

When you’re in doubt
I wish you faith

When you’re discouraged
I wish you hope

When you’re afraid
I wish you strength

When your heart is heavy
I wish you joy

When you’re troubled
I wish you peace

When you’re lonely
I wish you all love

RW, I really like the simplicity of this poem, how you so easily distill these big and beautiful ideas into simples phrases. I really resonated with the lines “When your heart is heavy, I wish you joy.” It’s easy to have a heavy heart these days, but your poem really lifted mine. Thank you. Caity, Washington D.C.

    Hi RW,

This poem being about emotions/Hope, was well written. I’m sure you are in a time of adversity a long with many others suffering. I believe you are speak for yourself and anyone else facing tough tribulations, while in the same breath wishing them well. It shows honorable character to spread light when one is experiencing darkness. Inspirational.

    Thank You!

RW after reading your poem I enjoyed how simple and beautiful you kept it. When I was reading this it made me think of a person saying this to themself about another person. Telling that person that no matter what they are going through that they are not alone and that people are cheering for them. So many people in life get in a bad situation and dwell on it by themselves thinking that they are alone. Spreading the message that people are not alone no matter what they are going through is powerful. I hope you are doing well, and keep spreading that positivity.

This poem is short, but I think it conveys a very powerful message about hope and love. This is a very comforting poem and I want to save this to send to my mom for when she is having a bad day.

With so many negative and difficult things going on in the world, it is really powerful to read this and feel the sense that someone cares about you, so thank you! I hope you can take this message and apply it to yourself too! All the best, Maya

    RW,
As someone who has struggled with depression and anxiety for my entire life this poem resonated very deep in my soul. Often times you feel so alone and that no one in the entire world cares about you. I will remember this poem on my bad days and I would like for you to remember that you helped a teenage girl make it through another day.

    • Adam Gaydos on October 9, 2020 at 10:23 AM

This poem really speaks to me because I have had some rough times in my life. It is hard to remember that there are people in this world who do truly want the best for you. This is a poem that I would send to people who are going through a rough patch in life to remind them that the entire world is not against them and that there are people who truly do want to help. When I read this poem, it brought me back to my most recent rough time in life. I remembered all of the things that were happening to me as I read the words and I came to realize that, at the moment, everything seemed to be against me and no one was in my corner. But now, I know that I always have people to turn to even if I don’t really know them.

    Hi RW,
From the first line, I was instantly drawn in. Your poem has such a greater meaning to it. From your poem, I took that we should be letting others know we care about them. Their are people out there who struggle with depression and anxiety and just letting them know that we are right there beside them through their journey can go a long way. I personally struggle with anxiety and your poem is very comforting to me because it reminds that their are people out there who want to help me and stand beside me in my journey. So, thank you for writing what I needed to be reminded of!

I have saved this poem and added it to my prayer journal. It is inspiring that even in your time of despair you are writing about what you want for someone else or others. You can really see your heart in this poem. Thank you, RW, for sharing this. It is something that I will carry with me forever.

  19. Maddie on October 7, 2020 at 2:01 PM

RW, these sentiments are so important to share, especially as we all face new challenges in 2020. I think the beauty of this platform is that it allows strangers to empower one another through written words, and your poem is a clear and perfect example of that. Continue to spread positivity and light! I hope that you, too, are able to feel strength and power to move you through difficult times. I know that I feel lifted up when reading this poem, and I hope to send you the same feelings of support.

  20. Geoffrey Helveston on October 7, 2020 at 6:09 PM

This poem is very simplistic and I liked that. I felt like the use of “I” made the poem very personal. It makes me feel like no matter what happens, I am not alone. I think I can use this poem to communicate with other people I know to ensure them that when life seems tough, they have someone in their corner cheering them on. Good job RW.

I can tell from this poem that you have such a big heart and love for others. Thank you for this poem. The world is a crazy place right now and seems like a lot of negativity, but this poem was very powerful and gave me a sense that there are people who care. RW,

This is a wonderfully written and very simple poem. I love how it was straight to the point and understanding. Everyone has bad days and its good to hear about it from others sometimes and relate to them. It’s difficult during these times to stay positive with all the uncertainty circling around. I admire your strength in this writing. Use it to get through this.

    All the best,

If I could descrbe this poem in one word. It would be “hope” I loved how the author wrote about how they wish the opposite of what the other person was wishing. In a world full of hatred always be kind. Please continue to write in the future.

  35. Jacob on October 20, 2020 at 7:14 PM

I really appreciate the simplicity of this poem, because it really does say a lot in just a few words. It is always good to appreciate the good moments in life and sometimes we dwell too harshly on the bad, but by manifesting and searching for the good we can get through our struggles one step at a time. Keep focusing on the good moments, even in times of bad.

    Hi RW!

I really liked that this poem gave me a reminder that I am not alone in my struggles and that other people can believe in me too! I think in this world we need to come together and believe in each other and challenge each other to lead and grow! I think that this was a beautifully written message that retained simplicity in order to cheer up anyone who comes across this poem! Wishing you the best!

  40. Cameron on October 23, 2020 at 5:29 PM

RW, wow. I love how you are able to write a simple poem, but convey so many thoughts and emotions. Your poem not only reminds me of my loved ones, but how wonderful it is to be loved. It gives me hope that, even in the hardest moments of my life, there is someone wishing me all of the things that you listed. Based on that, I know that whoever this poem is about (if it is anyone in particular), they are incredibly lucky to have someone like you in their life. Wishing you all the best, and I can’t wait to read more from you!

  41. N. B. on October 25, 2020 at 1:16 PM

I love how this poem is so simple and clean cut yet says so much. I love how this poem can be whatever the reader needs it to be, whatever the reader needs right now. Although all lines are strong and the repetition really drives the piece home, my favorite line was “When you’re in doubt / I wish you faith.” I’m not sure why… maybe because it can be applied to so many situations. Maybe because I believe faith (not necessarily the religious kind) is a crucial component in humans lives. Faith that tomorrow will come, faith that everything will turn out how it’s meant to… Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful piece.

  42. Jade on October 26, 2020 at 11:20 AM

    Hello RW,
I love the simplicity of the poem you’ve written above. This poem is simple but could mean so much to someone going through a lot from suffering depression and etc. Your poem can bring peace to someone in these short simple lines.

  43. Derek H. on October 26, 2020 at 11:56 AM

Hey RW, the repetition of this poem kept me engaged the entire time, I truly love its simplistic structure. This was the perfect message to keep me pushing through the day, it truly made me feel as if you are in my corner rooting for me. Thanks for sharing!

  44. Anneliese on October 26, 2020 at 2:38 PM

RW, I think the simplicity of your poem added to the beauty of it. With everything that has been going on this year it has been very easy to get down and feel alone in the world. However, your poem reminded me that there are always people cheering you on and wishing you all the best. So, I wanted to let you know that I am wishing you all the best too!

  45. Logan on October 28, 2020 at 1:21 PM

I love your message of positivity, RW. It’s good to see someone spreading it where they can, no matter what! I think if you keep the attitude up, it’ll make you unstoppable and a beacon of hope to those around you. That being said, I liked the way your wording changed on the last line, to go from, “you,” to, “you all.” It felt more inclusive and like a great way to end it. You’re not just talking to me, or the other readers. You’re speaking to everyone. Keep spreading that kind of positivity, RW. It’ll make the world a better place.

RW, your poem is simple, yet it has a powerful message. It is easy to feel as though no one is on your side and that you need to go through all these struggles by yourself. I love this positivity and I look forward to reading more poems by you!

  53. Erik Celis on November 19, 2020 at 10:39 PM

This poem immediately warmed me up. The reassurance for any type of negative feeling inspires and motivates me to get out of my dark place. I’m reminded that there is always someone watching over your and hoping for that best when you feel all hope is lost.

  54. Belen Rodriguez on November 20, 2020 at 2:46 PM

    RW,

This piece articulates the meaning of love and wanting the best for the ones that we care about. This piece is portrays to be of support of someone who is experiencing a difficult time. There is nothing but encouragement and emotional support from the author. This poem is serving as a positive affirmation and validating that the person or whom the text is directed, is not this battle alone, they have someone who cares deeply. Although this piece is providing support, I am sensing and recognizing the interchangeability of the responses. Great balance, Thank you for your piece!

  55. Clifford on November 20, 2020 at 4:55 PM

    RW,
I really enjoyed reading your poem, so uplifting! One line I really loved was how you offer strength to the subject as opposed to bravery when they are afraid. The distinction may be small but not at all insignificant! So glad I got to read something so inspiring and positive!

This poem radiates positivity and optimism! In today’s world, there are so many things that bring stress and anxiety upon people. We all needed reminding every once in a while about faith, happiness, hope, strength, and joy. The poem that you wrote could inspire many people and leave them reminded about the more important things in life. It is important to keep this poem in your mind wherever you go!

  65. Emme Jensen on December 14, 2020 at 6:37 PM

    RW,
Your poem was powerful to me because of how much I related to these words. Like you, I want to wish everyone the best. You have such inspiring words that are beautifully put into this poem. You express the idea that through everything; sadness, doubt, hope, discourage, fear, trouble, and loneliness, you wish for the best. Your repetition of the line “I wish you” shows how despite the struggles a person is enduring, you continually wish them the best. Along with the power of the repetition “I wish you” brings, it reminded me of Matthew 25:31-40, as Jesus does, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink”. This adds towards your central message that everyone deserves positive aspects in their lives. This mindset is something I strive for. What words really stuck out to me was, “When you’re in doubt, I wish you faith.” Because faith being my number one thing in life, when things are hard, I experience doubt, so being wished faith during these times is especially important. As we all face hard times, wishing others well, no matter who they are, is the greatest thing we can do as humans. I feel that through this short poem, you spoke volumes.

  66. Sabryn Ferchichi on December 15, 2020 at 3:26 PM

    RW,

This is the epitome of short and sweet. This poem was extremely beautiful and I love messages that show we may all feel down, but we’re not alone and the messenger (in this case, you) wants people to know that it’s going to be okay. Like another said, this is the type of poem you remember on days when you’re feeling low and I cherish that a lot. Powerful message, thank you.

  67. Johnny on January 18, 2021 at 10:17 AM

  70. Riti Kalra on January 18, 2021 at 6:58 PM

I think what I love most about this poem is the role reversal of negative and positive emotions. You end each statement with an ounce of hope for yourself and your reader even while discussing profound and deep emotions that one can feel. By choosing this path for your writing, it creates and spreads positive energy which I really appreciate.

  71. Serina on January 21, 2021 at 7:43 PM

I really enjoyed reading this, it was filled with so much hope and inspiration. It was simple, yet so complex because of how impactful it can be for readers to here the motivation and empowerment within your words. I loved how it is simply a poem that tells people to be rid of their negative emotions and to have faith when you doubt and to have peace when they are troubled. All these wishes made me feel like you were talking directly to me. It was a great poem, thank you for writing it!

    RW,
I really enjoyed this poem. It reminded me of a meditation technique that I use where I imagine I am breathing in the struggles and hardships of others and breathing out my love and healing energy to them. I believe it comes from Buddhism, believing that nothing bad can happen to you from ‘breathing in’ these negative energies as long as you are wishing them your best. Thank you for sharing! It made me feel connected.

I really enjoyed reading your poem. I feel that those are the ways that God speaks and helps us. This poem feels like it can not only help you but others too. I hope you keep writing more poems that help others as well as yourself. Usually people just write to express themselves but yours i very healing.

Hello RW! I am currently a student in a college course called Writing and Community, which is an English class with a focus on service learning. We try to interact with the community around us to enhance our learning and form meaningful connections with community organizations. I really enjoyed your poem. I found it very uplifting and I feel that I can feel positive energy radiating off of the poem. I strongly believe that people who put good things into the world will eventually experience good things as well. Based on this poem, it seems that you are one of those people, and I do sincerely hope that good things come your way soon. Hi RW,

This is such a meaningful poem. I especially love the juxtaposition of ideas, such as happiness/sadness and doubt/faith. Your supportive poem is short and simple, and I can feel genuine emotion from your words. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  88. Julia on September 22, 2021 at 2:58 PM

Short and sweet. This poem made me smile, and I hope all the same for you. Sometimes we get jealous of others or mad at them and it is easy to wish the worst on them, but this reminded me of how being positive and kind makes such an impact. It was nice to read something that make me feel happy and I hope this poem makes it around to those having a bad day. Maybe they will feel loved and appreciated by a stranger… as I did.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Dear RW,
Thank you for sharing your poem. These words written are extremely relatable and powerful. I think it is extremely hard to express feelings through words, and your poem does a beautiful job portraying the differences with each emotion.

    Dear RW,

I came across your poem on the Free Minds Book Club and Writing Workshop website. Your poem stood out to me the most because of the persistent message of wishing someone the best. Even the challenging situation you are in, it is amazing that you could have the spirit to continue to wish someone “faith” in line four, “hope” in line six, and “strength” in line eight. The poem conveys the hope that the person to whom you address will overcome those obstacles such as “discouragement”, “sadness” and, “loneliness.” It also implies that you have been dealing with the obstacles and are working hard to turn these into the positive. Your strength to continue through the hard times is not in vain. The power of this poem comes from your own heart will to combat your loved one’s grievances and have the person meet with the opposite, so that person’s life becomes one full of “joy”, “peace” and “love”. Living far away from family myself, the poem resonates with me deeply. No matter what I’m feeling and wherever I am, I always think back to them and hope them the very best while I’m away. It would be nice to know if the poem is about a specific person or is addressed to a broader audience, but in no way would this factor diminish the important message you were able to convey. I enjoyed your poem and the thoughts it promoted, and I hope you continue to keep writing in the future. And if this poem was meant for a specific person, I hope you see the person again soon. Thanks for the meaningful read.

    Sincerely,

    ZY

This poem has a sense of hope and uplifts you while reading it. I really enjoyed reading it, I felt these emotions while reading it and it was very special. The shortness and simplicity adds to these feelings and I think makes it more personal and special.

Hi! This poem is a great example of “quality over quantity.” In such a simple yet beautiful way, you convey a really persistent message to the individual. It is a beautiful way to make others feel cared for, loved, and important. A great way to spread positivity!

I liked how you kept it simple and beautiful, yet I believe it sends a very strong message about love and hope. I particularly appreciate how you used repetition to convey your concept throughout your poetry. Well done!

    Hi RW,

I loved this poem so much. It shows the feelings that love provokes in us, and how strong they can be. I especially love the last line, “When you’re lonely/I wish you all the love.” This poem is full of a lot of emotions that everybody feels to some extent for someone else at some point in their lives. Your writing is very relatable for the reader and allows the reader to connect to your work. Your poem is full of hope and courage, and a love for life that bleeds through your words. It brightened my day to read this! Thank you for sharing!

    Best,

    CB

Good evening RW I hope all is well and you have peace with what is going on in your life. I really enjoy picking the ones that don’t have titles because its like getting a mystery and you wonder what you will get, and I have to say I absolutely love your poem. In this poem you can really tell that you show kindness and also love for this person and only want the best for them and I hope you can give it to them. I hope you keep writing and I am excited to read what you write.

  98. Kayla M on December 5, 2022 at 5:51 PM

I think this poem is a great example of love and its beauty. If you love someone, doesn’t matter who it is mom, dad, friend, lover, etc., you always wish them goodness. If you have friends and I mean really true friends you wish them to have a good life and you hope for them to find happiness, but you not only hope these things you also help your loved ones get there. If my friends need help to reach their goal then I’lol always be there and I know that they’d do the same. Love is a mutual thing and its a beautiful thing. Everyone deserves that support and I think this poem really shows the beauty of love.

    Hi RW,
I really enjoyed reading this simple yet beautiful poem. I liked how I felt your emotions through the tone and word choice of your writing. I also liked how easily I (and other readers) can connect to your poem. We all have someone we love so much, that all we want for them is the best. I feel your writing also offered hope to someone who might not be feeling as loved as others. Thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts, and I hope to read more from you.

    RW,
I really like your poem just because it is so uplifting. I had a pretty tiring day so, reading your poem helped me relax. Your poem is also very encouraging and everyone can find happiness in reading it no matter who they are. The concise nature of your poem helps readers easily find the message in it.

  101. Andrew on February 12, 2023 at 9:16 PM

While short, this poem doesn’t cut corners and tells a meaningful story. It reassures the reader that things will look up regardless of the situation. There’s a lot of detail in such little words.

  102. Kayla on March 1, 2023 at 11:29 PM

This poem says a lot in such simple words. This shows how much love you can give a person and how much care you have for them. I have a few friendships like this where my friend unfortunately scrutinizes themselves because of their self hatred, but you see all the beauty in them and you wish they saw it in themselves. It can sometimes be frustrating because you wish they saw how amazing they really are. I also understand the other side of it as well, I really dislike myself and my best friend tells me all the time how much they wish they could see me love myself. It goes both ways, but I do think it takes self growth and effort to love yourself.

  103. Kearsten on March 6, 2023 at 8:36 PM

I love how simple this poem is. There are so few words yet, the message is so clear and powerful. I wish you peace and happiness as well. Looking forward to reading more of you’re work. Best wishes!
