Rise Above

By MD

YOU DON’T KNOW ME
You see that I’m locked up & think I’m going nowhere in life
You see that I’m caring & think I’m sweet
But you don’t know me

You would know me if…
You knew how hard it was to be called a crack baby growing up
You knew how I feel when I think people don’t care
You knew how much I wanted to go to the NBA

You see that I curse & think I have no vocabulary
You see that I smoke & think I’m burnt out
But you don’t know me

You would know me if…
You knew that I want something different
You knew how much I want to make my family proud
You knew how I love the Black communities & want us to rise above
You knew how much I want to be the man God made me to be

Then you would know me.
