Relentless

By ML

Every day I pray that things will get better
Every day I say that I will keep working hard
No matter what’s pulling me the other way
Every day I pray that times will get better
Every day I say I will get back to my family
And no one will stop me
Every day I pray, no matter what I have God by my side
Each and every day!
Every day I say that I will get free
Every day I pray that I will get home
In one piece
Every day I say I won’t let no one stop me
Every day I pray that my life won’t go back to the streets
Every day I say I’m going to do the right thing and go the other way
Every day I pray God will keep leading me in the right way
And not the wrong
Every day I say, I won’t let no one pull me back the other way
Every day I pray that freedom take me the right way!

    Hi ML,
Your resilience is obvious to me when I read your poem. Whatever adversity you’ve undergone, I can see it’s built a new strength in you. Your words remind me of something a mentor once told me: “All of the power we have in this world rests in the small space between stimulus and response.” We each have a choice – while we can’t change what happens to us, we can control how we respond. Your response is one of fierce faith, dedication, and growth. Thank you for sharing your work.

The use of repetition in this poem emphasizes the repeating mantras we tell ourselves. You string together the concept of an individual day by grouping them as “everyday” not only displaying your goals for the future while also showing how the past such as the days before today and tomorrow help us evolve and grow into a better stronger version of ourselves. This poem was a very touching reminder of growth and persistence.

This is such a great poem about the power of belief and prayer. The repetition of “Every day…” in each line creates a great flow and presence to your words. Thank you for sharing this powerful poem about what you see and want to in your world. It’s great that you have this self understanding and awareness to reflect on what you want to improve on (it’s very important for mental health).

A relentless person is someone who keeps trying and never gives up. You are relentless.

I love that you start every stanza, or line, with “Every day I”. This holds you accountable, it shows your commitment to bettering yourself. Your poem motivated me to go a little harder today in my own life.

You are capable of great things (this poem being one of them!). Success is coming your way. Keep your head up.

This is exactly how I feel with all of the madness going on in the world. Thank you for sharing this work with me. Stay as strong as you can.

The repetition in this was a really great choice I think to mimic the feeling of relentlessness. “Every day” is relentless as is the fear of failure, making mistakes, and even missing out. Thank you for sharing something so vulnerable! Keep at it and stay strong!

Prayer is such a powerful, but simple action. I often get caught up in life and put off my prayers or forget to count my blessings. When so much wrong is going on in the world, it is hard to find the light at the end of the tunnel. Your poem inspired me that no matter how distracting life can be, we always have time to pray and reflect on the things that matter to us. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    ML,
Hi, I’m Edmon and I’m in a class that aims to engage with the community beyond the university and corporations. This is a really strong poem that I enjoyed and liked the determination and never wanting to give up. Thats a strong skill that many forget nowadays. I also like the repetition of “every day”. I am a student in a community service course at Wayne State in Detroit whose goal is to engage with the community beyond the university. When I discovered Free Minds I was immediately thrilled to see the connections build around your writings and heart, and what you have to offer is a powerful and beautiful gift to the community. It was a true privilege getting the opportunity to read what is on your heart and mind, your desires and passions, thoughts, and struggles. You have so much to say, so much wisdom to give, and such deep experiences and desires to share with the community that people from all walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs, and ages can deeply connect with and affiliate with. Keep engaging with the community and making your voice heard. You bring healing, hope, and renewal of mind to many who have the privilege to share in your poetry. In regards to your poem, it is so powerful and full of courage and conviction designed around the life you want for yourself. You not only have goals, but you pursue them, you want them, and you work internally daily for them as said in your poem. YOU are relentlessly on a path towards bringing that courage and hope to others around you. Thank you for instilling that courage in me today and giving me a glimpse of what perseverance to change looks like.

This poem serves as a positive affirmation that reminds you to always keep forging ahead, no matter how bleak things may feel.
