Need Some Help

By AH

These walls are closing in slowly but surely

Everyday it’s getting harder 4 me to breath

It’s like I’m not the man I once used to be,

but I know they won’t believe me

My heart screams 4 love, but it’s ignored every time

What will it take 4 me to truly unwind?

I guess I’m scared to let the world know the real me

Could it be that I’m my own worst enemy?

If these walls would talk they would tell a deep story

About a boy that grew up lonely and hungry

With a tear stained pillow and a heart full of hate

With an empty stomach and a heart full of broken faith

No guidance nor supervision

Never told to be quiet, shut up and listen.

A man before my time

Lived hard before I even got a chance to live

I remember telling myself that something’s gotta give

There’s no greater pain than a neglected child’s

No love in my house hold and u expect me to smile

Come on, let’s be real, I am to you what I am to everybody else

A troublesome youth that needs some help

Don’t give up! People May not believe that you have changed at first, but YOU HAVE TO SHOW THEM THAT YOU HAVE CHANGED…even if IT SUCKS AT FIRST, AND YOU THINK “I’VE CHANGED, WHY CAN’T THEY SEE” Just keep in mind that you have to continue to do good and better your life, and even if they don’t believe that you have changed, IT’S MORE IMPORTANT THAT YOU KNOW YOU HAVE CHANGED AND YOU KEEP MOVING FORWARD!! Hang in there! Don’t let your past determine your future, You may have had a shitty past, but IT ULTIMATELY UP TO YOU TO MAKE THE BEST OF WHAT YOU HAD AND CHANGE FOR THE FUTURE AND FROM LEARNING FROM YOUR MISTAKES!! Don’t Give Up!!

I love the flow of these pieces, but especially this one.

I’m having trouble putting this comment into words… I suppose I value the nature/nurture debate it touches on. That while your past shapes who you are, it does not define you or your life, an important lesson usually learned long after youth. But also, that though we are constantly changing, for better or worse, impressions are hard to change. Others see our past as proof of who we are, and are much more likely to condemn our actions, rather than understand them or allow us to atone.

I love what you’re all doing (both the Free Minds and its authors), I look forward to reading much more.

In the words of Mother Teresa, “When I pick up some starving person off the street and offer him a bowl of rice or a piece of bread, I can satisfy his hunger. But a person that has been beaten or feels unwanted or or unloved or fearful or rejected by society experiences a kind of poverty that is much more painful and deep. The cure is much more difficult to find.” I was reading No Greater Love this morning and your poem brought me back to this statement. Your honesty and insight is beautiful. Maybe thats cliché but still…it’s true. I think lots of people still have a child inside that could use some healing. You’re not alone in spirit. Peace.

I love the descriptive language you used; i was really able to get a mental picture through the lines

“If these walls would talk they would tell a deep story

About a boy that grew up lonely and hungry

With a tear stained pillow and a heart full of hate

With an empty stomach and a heart full of broken faith”

I can relate to this too.. and for me, it’s nice to know that when God looks at us, He doesn’t see us in the box that society and circumstance have put us in to. He sees us as His creation, meant to do great things. Don’t give up hope, and don’t let the ignorance of others frustrate your growth and learning. You are beautiful, from the inside out!
