DW, thank you for sharing. I can see how it might be frustrating to try and lead those who are reluctant to follow. I think it is great that you recognized how Free Minds can be a strong force for change. That is why I think you should continue to write and express yourself on these themes of Leadership and Change. I look forward to reading more of your work.
I think having a free mind is also a well grown seed. Not just the program, but our own minds. I really liked this poem and the rhymes. Rhyming without sounding cheesy is hard and you did it. This poem is beautiful and thought provoking. Thank you for writing it!
This was very simple but intriguing.The mind is so important! What we think is what we say, and what we say is what we will do. We must fill our brains with knowledge and not get distracted in greed. We all were born in the same world, lets make it count and save others!

Hello, DW–the rhythm in this poem is very effective. I really like the image of the “well watered seed.” That’s the way Free Minds feels to me, too.

It is so encouraging to see you acknowledge in your poetry all the good that programs like Free Minds do for inmates and, by extension, for society as a whole. You are completely correct– these days, we live in such a self-involved world where it is almost encouraged to be selfish and only worry about oneself, in order to “get ahead”. This type of mindset ultimately benefits nobody, because society is only able to progress in a positive and meaningful way if we look out for one another and find the means to educate those who may have not had the same advantages in their lives as others, instead of simply believing it is okay to ignore them or throw them “under the bus” to get ahead in life.

Thank you for sharing. I agree with your idea of minds being blocked in today society. In many ways free thinking seems to be overlooked for structural learning which does have benefits but many the downside is many kids think the same way. I think that schools should have a less structured way of teaching how to learn so free thought has a larger impact of the kids.

I love this short poem about the way Free Minds has guided you through this crazy journey we call life. I love the rhyme and the reminder that we are all unique, but can come together through common differences. The second line is brilliant with its play on the name of this organization: “(The) blocked minds to be freed.” Thank you for sharing and please keep writing–you have a talent that can be easily identified from this concise but powerful piece.
This was a very well written poem. You did such a good job rhyming and saying what was on your mind. Keep writing and never stop!
I think its interesting how minds is the only one that doesn’t repeat the rhyming scheme and this brings attention to it so that it shows that the mind in a sense is “free” from this pattern. I agree that most people follow a certain pattern and are muddled and maybe that was what you were intending with the rhyming to showcase that rhymes are a a mindless thing a muddle mind does to quickly look over things. But, it is necessary to think beyond and look past this to be free and think for yourself.

“Why free minds, is a well watered see” I loved that verse. The growth and nurturing that comes from a well watered seed of free minds is so vital to becoming who we are. We all need that freedom and a right to our free minds so we can explore who we are and who we are meant to be. I also loved your statement on how we are all form one creed. A freed mind is the mind that understands that we are all human and not so different from one another. You’re doing an amazing job with your writing, keep writing!
