I Really Do This

By BG

I love to write my thoughts with paper and ink
If only to get a response of what it is you think
When I want to, I lay down and write rhymes
In the form of poetry line after line
Sometimes it takes a minute or two
Others five, though it’s all true
That’s what I like most about it
It don’t take long at all to write it
Plus it’s therapy
All positive energy

    BG,

I love this poem! I reminds me of why I like to write and the power that poetry has. I agree- poetry really is like therapy and brings in so much positive energy. Also, I really like how you rhymed each line. The rhyming felt really natural and not at all forced. Really great job! I can’t wait to read more!

    BG,

I love how this was like an ode to poetry and your passion for it. It reminded me a lot of beat poetry or rap. Like “An Ode to Hip Hop” by Common and Erykah Badu. It’s short, but it also gets to the point and is like a slam resemblance of what’s to love about the art of poetry. “Plus it’s therapy,” is a line that really stuck out to me as I know me and many others feel this way when writing, like a form of therapy. Love to see more from you.

This poem is different from all the other poems on here. I like how you explain why writing is so important to you. I also like the way you rhymed in the poem. All in all this was a good and unique poem! Keep up the good work!

    Dear BG,

I love this positive message about the impact of poetry and writing! I also find that writing can be helpful for me to express my feelings, whether or not I’m writing for someone else to read. As you say, it’s like a form of therapy. Your poem is likely very relatable for many people. I love your rhymes and the meaning you convey in this short and sweet poem. It is also cool that you are writing directly to your audience. Keep writing! Sending lots of positive energy your way.

    Sincerely,
    Joyce

    BG,

Poetry is such a powerful, therapeutic tool, and I love how you express and embody that in this poem. I also love how you are so honest about the process of writing poetry; sometimes as poets, we have a lot to say, and it just flows out of us, and other times, it takes more time to express what it is we are feeling deep down. I am so glad that you have found poetry as a means of therapy and a place to gather and compose your thoughts. It’s so important to have an outlet! Please keep writing and sharing your work!

    Best,

    Samantha

Hey BG! I love the use of rhyme scheme in this poem, it allows me to interact with what you are writing and almost flow through it easier. It gives a sing-song pattern to your work. Also, I love how the poem shows your thoughts on writing poems to begin with. It is cool because you are writing a poem about writing poetry and it is cool to see your point of view as well as what writing poetry is all about! Keep on writing!

  9. Virginia on December 21, 2020 at 11:38 AM

    Hi BG,
I really like the way you write about writing. Your poem is short and simple, but it says all it needs to say and it comes across in such an honest and genuine way. I think it’s really cool that you use your writing as a way to express your thoughts and to channel some positive energy in your life. I feel the same way about writing— no matter what’s going on in my life, I always feel a little bit better after I’ve spent a few minutes with a paper and some ink. I also like how you wrote your poem with rhymes. It has a nice flow to it! Keep up the good work; this poem has inspired me to do some more writing myself, thanks to you!

    Hi BG,

Thank you for sharing this poem! I really liked the title you chose– it sums up the feelings you express in the poem so well and also shows a sense of excitement and awe in the act of writing. I think the process of writing is the most fun and important part, and so writing a poem about the process of writing a poem helped me reflect on the fun that comes with creating things. I got a real sense of the joy it brought you to write it. This poem struck me as a tribute to the best things about writing– including the connections made between author and readers– and I hope you keep writing more of them.

    Best,
    Joseph

    Hi BG,

I really enjoyed the poem you wrote and how simple it was, but at the same time it helped provoke some deep thoughts. It was cool how you mentioned writing poetry is therapy to you because you can put feelings somewhere even if you don’t want to talk to someone about them. I also enjoyed how you talked about the process of writing and it could be really short, but it could also take a little bit more thought and time. I think your title pulled the entire poem together and it was the cherry on top.

    Hi BG,
I really like you poem, and your description of what writing does for you. Although you said the process and time you dedicate to writing something may vary, the fact that writing is like therapy remains true throughout your poem. I also like the positive energy that’s released through writing poetry. It is a great way to clear one’s mind and it’s good to write everyday! I hope you continue writing and sharing your wonderful work with others!

    Best wishes,

    BG –
Congratulations on writing a fantastic poem! I really enjoyed reading it. I think many people can resonate with this poem, because many people also use writing as a form of therapy. Another piece that really stuck out to me is that you mentioned all your poetry is true. Writing from your life experiences will make your work so much more personal and a more emotional experience for a reader. Keep up the great work!

  17. Riti Kalra on January 18, 2021 at 6:56 PM

This poem is really wonderful. You express the power of writing and how it has transformed you as a person from the time that it takes (recognizing the intricacies of this process and why that’s important), to how it brings about positive energy, and acts as a form of therapy. I hope you continue to use writing and poetry as an outlet to express how you’re feeling.

  18. Natalie D. on January 25, 2021 at 1:25 PM

    Hey BG,

I love that you use poetry as a way of getting you thoughts out. Sometimes it is best to write them down because as you said it’s therapeutic and easy to write a rhyme, probably a lot more easier to write it than to share it verbally. Writing poetry used to be an outlet of mine, and now after reading your poem I just might have to get back into it. Thank you for sharing.

  19. Gisela on January 30, 2021 at 3:51 PM

    Hi BG,
Short and sweet. Poetry comes easy to you, it seems. I can’t rhyme to save my life, but I should try. Like you noted “it’s therapy, all positive energy.” Cheers, Gisela

Amazing poem BG! It was short and to the point! Writing down and reflecting on your thoughts can really help lots of people, and this poem definitely hit me in a good way! Thank you for this, especially because positive energy is all we should spread.

I love the rhyme scheme you used in this poem! It flows nicely, and I also agree that writing is one of the best forms of therapy. I think you perfectly encapsulated a way to cope and a way to feel; how powerful just writing on a piece of paper can be which I love so much! Keep on writing, you got this

  24. Maddi on March 5, 2021 at 1:52 PM

BG, I really like this poem because it reminds me that poetry can take whatever form one wants it to take. I feel like writing poetry always intimidated me, personally, because I felt like it had to look or sound a certain way. But really, poetry can be a form of self expression that is as simple as sitting down and writing down some thoughts. Thanks for sharing this positive message!

  25. Joe Fargo on March 25, 2021 at 11:19 PM

Hi! This is such a great poem! I love that you mention how much you enjoy writing your thoughts down on paper. I too can relate to that. I especially like how you make the reference of it being like therapy. Putting our feelings and emotions down on paper certainly can be the equivalent of therapy for us! Continue to write down your feelings and share with others at is can help other people! Hope you are doing well!

    BG,
This is a great poem and I love how it captures the energy that inspires other poets and writers. I’m glad you’ve found poetry as an outlet because you are clearly great at it!

  28. Zach Phelps on March 30, 2021 at 1:36 PM

I loved the simplicity of your poem. You are telling exactly what you want your reader to know how you feel about writing. I think it is beautiful that you wrote about your relationship with writing itself, because writing is a powerful thing many use to escape the world around them and be brought to somewhere where they can express themselves in a new way! I love to write and to listen to other’s writing. I love listening to music for these exact reasons you describe, I love the lyrics and the therapy that writing can be! Beautiful poem, thank you for writing this!

  29. Ashlen on March 31, 2021 at 6:30 PM

BG – I love that you’ve found positivity in writing! I really enjoyed reading your poem and I especially liked how thoughtful your rhyming was. Your poem also expresses so much in just a few lines, and while we may be far apart, I felt like I got to know a part of you through it. It made me want to write too. Keep on writing!

Hello BG, I am a student in a university writing course titled Writing and Community. We focus on community service and service learning to interact with the community around us and enhance our learning. I really enjoyed your poem and the attitudes you have toward writing. I like that you mention that some poems take longer than others, and imply that they do not all need to follow the exact same format to be considered poetry. I am glad that you find writing poetry to be therapeutic, as it is so important to have a hobby that allows you to express yourself and feel calm. I do hope that you continue to write and express yourself through your poetry. Good luck in the future!

    Hey BG,

I love this moment of meta self-reflection. As your reader, we’re just one part of your writing process, but I’m grateful to be a part of it. I hope you keep writing and creating. There will always be someone out there who will relate to your work and feel less alone. Hopefully you can feel less alone, too. Sending you lots of love.

I loved reading your poem! It’s so motivating and funny to me. I absolutely feel the same way. I think writing really helps me express my own emotions in a therapeutic way. It is such a great escape and it makes you feel like you can actually do something and you read over it and you say I really do this because you love your work. That feeling is just so amazing!

  37. N on November 9, 2021 at 9:42 PM

This is awesome! Writing can serve so many different purposes, and it’s such a simple thing to put down our pen and jot down words and rhymes, but this thing can make us feel so accomplished. I love how your poem itself is so simple and to the point; in 10 lines you manage to convey the beauty of writing.

  38. Devin on December 13, 2021 at 2:55 PM

BG, While reading through the poems on the free minds website I came across your poem. Your poem stood out to me with how you talk about you and your writing. I find the way you talk about the your writing to be intriguing and intellectual. The way I was reading your process for writing poems soon became apparent to me that you are talking about writing the very same poem I am reading. When I came to that conclusion the indepthness of your poem became apparent to me. I was pulled in with each word of your poem and the rhymes between the words made the poem flow so smoothly.

  39. Sophie on January 7, 2022 at 11:38 AM

    Dear BG,
You so simply and effectively explain the power of writing. I journal to sort my thoughts and work through strong emotions. I love having a blank page and a pen, and just letting my thoughts flow, no editing or censorship. It is one of the areas in my life where I can be truly honest. Your poem successfully captures that feeling in a fun and skillful way. Keep up the amazing writing!

    Sincerely,
    SS

    Hey BG!
I absolutely love your energy in this poem! I especially appreciate the lines, “Plus it’s therapy” and “All positive energy.” I think it is so important for people to find what best helps them vent what’s on their mind. Writing is such a strong way to do this which can definitely help keep life moving with a positive energy. It has for sure become something in my life that I use to get out all of my thoughts and feelings, so I relate to this very passionately! I admire and thank you for sharing this, especially in such a fun, catchy, and rhythmic way. It rolls off the tongue and brings a smile to my face. Amazing poem, I can’t wait to read more of your work!

I think this is a really good poem!! It shows that people can feel better through writing. I did this to help cope with my dads death. I wrote a letter to him and burnt it and it felt great. It’s so nice to let all your feelings out, and choosing whether you want to share it or not. Writing your feelings out is very therapeutic and it can help a lot. Thank you for sharing this poem and hopefully it encourages people to do the same if their struggling !!

This poem is so powerful and a great explanation of why this whole website is very helpful. Poetry and writing in general helps so many individuals, and like you said “it’s therapy , all positive energy.” This is my favorite quote from your poem and a great overall quote for others trying to write poetry. Writing poetry is all for fun with no rules. Keep up the great work!

  46. Nora on November 20, 2022 at 8:27 PM

Writing can be a great outlet, but it can get lonely just between the paper and ink with no one to speak it to. Poem is a great reminder that everyone can write, and it doesn’t have to take that long. People always seem to be caught up in the what ifs and the negatives. So much that they overlook until it becomes should haves and regrets.

    Hi BG,
I love the rhyming you used in this poem. I liked the way that you shared your feelings about poetry, and the way it is therapeutic for you. The ending was great as well. Thank you for sharing !
