I Am There

When you need me
I am there
Even if you deny me
I am there
Even when you feel most alone
I am there
Even in your pain
I am there
When you pray 2 God
And ask him 2 bring me back home 2 you
I am in you
And you are in me
I am there
Because I have 2 be
And because I wanna be there with you
Only in your mind
Can you feel separate from me

    Dear Poet,

Your way of letting the person know you are there seems as if you don’t want to be forgotten. Who don’t you want to be forgotten by? Who are you always there for? I can see you want to be there at all times even if they are going through pain. I can tell that it’s their decision that they want you there, in other words, they remember you.

This poem is very strong with the repetition of “I am.” I like the way you use “2.” I think the short lines work well to give the feeling of intensity. You might want to tell more about the speaker–where is that person? why aren’t they there actually?

This poem made us feel a lot of love and loss.
