Forever Walking

By DL

Grab my hand and let’s take a walk
I’ll keep you warm; I’ll be your scarf
Our friendship will mold into a work of art
As long as our hands don’t break apart
Love and loyalty is all I want
One day without you feels like a month

Lost without a cure, you finally found me
You traveled far when the path was cloudy
You reached out your hand and entwined it with mine
As we dance on a cloud, lost in time
Your hiding place is in my heart
The door is open, no key no lock

A flower garden is where we’ll sit
As I compare the flowers to your luscious lips
A kiss by the river will have us suspended in air
While your love has me trapped, I’m forever ensnared
When the sky breaks open and God starts calling
We’ll still be holding hands… forever… walking

This is a true love poem, very eloquently put. If it is to a special someone, lucky them! If not, just knowing these feelings are possible makes one hopeful. Great job! Keep up the good work!

DL, I like the repeated imagery of “hands” that you have through out this poem, and your recurring reference to “time.” It is great how you and this person’s relationship transcends space and time, it’s very magical and mystical, like a dream and full of hope. Great work, DL, I love it. Please keep writing! Emily

DL, particular lines stand out for me: the first two, especially the welcoming first line, forceful but friendly: “Grab my hand and let’s take a walk.” And I like how you return to it at the very end. Also like the imagery of breaking the usual laws of gravity–being suspended in air, walking in clouds–that suggests a relationship that defies the usual confines of nature.

The imagery and word choice in this poem are just phenomenal. “I’ll be your scarf,” “dance on a cloud,” “forever ensnared,” “suspended in air”– these are so lyrical and full of beauty. I can’t wait to read more poems because you clearly have a gift for painting pictures with words.
