SUMMARY:Virtual Write Week: June 26-July 3
DESCRIPTION:Free Minds is hosting a virtual Write Week from June 26-July 3! You’re invited to connect with incarcerated poets through a mutual exchange of creativity\, inspiration\, and hope. \nHave you ever wished you could participate in Write Night\, but couldn’t make the Wednesday evening timeslot? Well this month you can—we are hosting a whole Write WEEK with poems at your fingertips!\n\n\n \n  \n\nInstead of a live webinar\, when you RSVP\, you’ll receive a link to our poetry board; you will be able to read and respond to our members’ poetry at your own pace! You’ll be able to see other comments from other volunteers when they log on too. The poetry board will open for comments starting Wednesday\, June 26th at 7 pm ET\, and will remain open until July 3rd. Feel free to take your time and read the poems at a time that works for you—the beauty of digital connection! \nAll you need is a computer or tablet and an internet connection. If you are using a smartphone\, we recommend downloading the Miro mobile app. Click here for a quick tutorial on how to use Miro. \n\nIf you need any assistance during Write Week\, please email Aneka@freemindsbookclub.org OR call the Free Minds team at 202-758-0829 from 10am-5pm on Tuesdays\, Wednesdays\, or Thursdays. \n\nThis event is free. Please consider a donation to help support Free Minds Book Club.

SUMMARY:On the Same Page: July Write Night
DESCRIPTION:Join Free Minds for our first in-person Write Night since 2020! At Capitol Hill Write Night\, Free Minds members who are formerly incarcerated will join other Free Minds supporters and community members to share personal reflections before each participant reads and responds to poetry by our incarcerated writers. Responses will be collected and mailed to the poets following the event. \n \nRSVP for On the Same Page: Write Night \nMany Free Minds members have shared that they would not have made it through the most difficult times in prison were it not for our correspondence and resources\, particularly the words of support and encouragement that our community back home provides on their writing. \n“When I received my first poem back from a Write Night event\, I was in awe. Reading the comments helped me to believe that there are people who actually care. This program is truly life changing. It’s given me something to look forward to\, and it’s changed my outlook on life\, myself\, society\, and those around me.” – Free Minds Member Ahna \nThank you to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for making this event possible. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to ensure sufficient space.
