SUMMARY:Poetry and Art as Liberation: Stories of Hope and Resilience in the Prison System
DESCRIPTION:Join Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop and the Second Look Project for an evening of poetry and visual art presented by formerly incarcerated artists. Hear spoken word poetry\, view art\, and read and respond to poetry by incarcerated writers. \n \n  \nThis event will feature poetry performances as well as displays of visual art and writing by incarcerated and formerly incarcerated artists\, including poets and artists who were given extreme prison sentences when they were youth and young adults. These artists have returned home through D.C.’s Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act. \nGuests will have the opportunity to engage directly with the poets and artists present at the event\, and to connect through writing with poets who are still behind bars in a mutual exchange of hope and healing. \nThis event is free\, but registration is required. RSVP here to reserve your spot!
