Free Minds offers a month-long paid Job Readiness and Personal Skill Building Apprenticeship for young men returning from jail or prison. The Apprenticeship is a literacy, life skills, and work readiness program, including workshops on topics such as resume writing, job interviews, continuing your education, workplace etiquette, decision making, health and fitness, entrepreneurship, budgeting and financial literacy, and interactive workplace problem solving. Apprentices also work shifts, paid for by Free Minds, at local contracting companies run by returning citizens (formerly incarcerated). In 2015, we provided 34 Apprenticeships, exceeding our goal of 30; our goal for 2016 is to provide 40 Apprenticeships.
