Color Blind

By LC

Love burns in my heart
for all
Strong, like the sun at high noon
But you see it not
Nor do you see the ambition
the hope, the genius
You don’t see it
Because all you see is a color

Thank you for your poem. You capture the irony of how we can feel such powerful positive emotion inside us and yet there will be people who will see nothing but their own pre-conceived ideas of who we are. You describe your inner life with such clarity: you are loving, hopeful, ambitious. I hope your words will be like a mirror to remind you of who you are in those times when you find it difficult to see your strengths. Writing has literally saved my life. I hope you will continue to write. VN

    LC,

Your poem exposes a harsh reality that a lot of people don’t wish to always bring up — racism. You show that there is far more to a person than their ethnicity/color of their skin. The fact that you hold so much love in your heart for all is a beautiful thing and thank you for sharing this poem — a small piece of your heart.

Wow. The more I read the more I understand. Some people are blinded by color. So blinded that they don’t see the capabilities and ambition we Carrie. You have expressed your love for others and it is encouraging to know that there are people who love people. At that, All people, in all colors.

The simplest poems are often the most powerful. This one is a prime example of that. I see your ambition, your hope, your genius, and your love. I see your greatness.

Hi LC, my name is Emily and I go to college in Detroit. I came across this website from one of my classes in which we are engaging in community and service. I really enjoyed your poem because while short, your point came across clearly. There was such power in such few words and I knew what you are trying to say right away. Just because you are a different color doesn’t mean that you are any less loving or caring than someone else. You have feelings and goals just like everyone else. You have intelligence and compassion that many just look past. Your poem address the struggles of race and the way people in this world tend to think and act. Everyone deserves to show their genius no matter what. I hope that there are some people who have been able to see your love and kindness and that you are able to continue sharing that with us. You are a bright light in this world and I believe that this light will be able to shine through and be seen by others. Your poem made me take a step back and think about the world and my views and for that I am grateful to look at.

Hi LC, thank you for sharing this poem with us. My name is Emily and I attend college in Detroit. I came across this website through my English class in which we are incorporating service and community into it. I enjoyed how simple your poem is, but it still contained a lot of power to it. Unfortunately in this world, a lot of people are blinded by color. They are not able to see the true beauty and greatness in a person because of what they look like. My favorite line from your poem was “Love burns in my heart for all strong, like the sun at high noon.” I think that it shows how much emotion and feeling that you carry inside of you. You have all these things that you want to share, but the confines of the world won’t let you. I hope that one day you can share yourself because if it is anything like this poem, it will be amazing.

    LC,
Your poem has such a strong message. I understand what you’re trying to say about people boiling others down simply based on the color of their skin and not seeing the other characteristics that make them unique. I see your characteristics, I see your words, and I see your feelings. Everyone is more than just a color and the world needs to start changing so that we can create a better society that does not judge others simply based on what they look like. The world may be unfair, but my generation and I will push and succeed in making the world safe and comfortable for everyone no matter what.
