Unsolved Mysteries

By DW

Blindness affecting love
War obliterating peace
Miles and miles of loneliness
And for what?
No one knows.
Freedom locked away forever
and at what cost?
Will no one unbury the lost?
Will the children of the stars forever cry?
Will their tears continue to flood the streets?
Who will answer for this?
Secrets being revealed
Water polluted
And for what?
And at what cost?
Who will answer for this?
No one knows

    It’s true. No one does.

  2. Dear DW, When I read this poem I see you describing and lamenting the pain that so many people experience because of the cruel ways we treat each other. And your question “who will answer for this?” is right on because so often the ones who pay the price, as for example the people who had to drink polluted water in Flint are those who don’t have power. And those who have the power seem to escape any consequences. You’ve described it very well. Keep on writing. You have a lot to say.

This poem is concise and powerful! I really like the questions asked midway…”Will no one unhurt the lost? Will the children of the stars forever cry?”

The repetition of “for what?” & “no one knows” has great impact.

I think there’s a transition needed right before “secrets being revealed” to help the poem flow a little better.

Great job — please, keep writing.

DW, I definitely empathize with your questioning… the world is so heavy with pain. I find comfort in knowing that their are people like you, me, and many others, who care and won’t let “the lost” stay buried. Here’s a quote that I think of when I’m feeling overwhelmed by it all. Maybe it will help you too: “The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by obvious realities. We need [people] who can dream of things that never were.” – John Keats… don’t let the pain limit your horizons, use it as motivation, and keep writing!
