Poem: “The Road for Me”

The Road for Me

Three months I’ve been in jail in one month it changed me.
My first poem “Change” was the new me.
I’m mad it took this to help me see.
There’s better things than just being on the block doing nothing.
I understand that you many have grew up on crime and don’t know anything.
But change is easy just let it be.
The things I did was for the adrenaline rush and out of curiosity.
I’ve done what I wanted and I won’t look back twice.
I’m looking forward to a better life.
I’m telling you if you’re doing crimes that road will leave you no reward at the ending.
I’m telling you that’s the wrong road from the beginning.

Your poem sounds like it would read well for an open mic poetry. My favorite line is “But change is easy just let it be.” Many people struggle with change and resist it at great lengths. However, once one is willing to accept change, paths to positivity become much easier to navigate. I am very happy for you and the positive changes you are making in your life!

Thank you for being so vulnerable in this poem! You are wise beyond your years. I takes so many people a long time to realize the emptiness of things that only bring instant gratification. I hope that you continue to search for true meaning in your life and stay away from crime. Keep writing; we hear you!

Your poem is really thoughtful and I appreciate you taking the time to write it. I think sometimes we make irrational or dangerous choices because it can give us short-term adrenaline, happiness, excitement, etc., but we never think about how the long-term consequences will impact ourselves and others. Thank you for being honest with others and yourself. Others and I appreciate your work!

I really love how your poem is a message for people and you have to chance to change a life because you wrote this poem. You have a very powerful message in your poem and I am amazed by your willingness to share your story. Thank you for your honesty and vulnerability.

Thank you for writing this! “Change” seems like such a big and scary thing, but I think you’re absolutely right–change can happen easily and we have to be more open-minded about that. Your perspective is valid and your words shine brightly; thank you for using your past experiences to reach / help others! Wisdom is gained through experiences, and clearly you have learned so much over the years.

I think this poem has a really great message that could really help others to avoid mistakes you have learned from. There are a lot of young people that either learn this lesson the hard way or never learn this lesson at all, especially if they grew up seeing others around them making these same mistakes. The way you presented your message was straightforward and the poem ended up being great. I hope you continue to write and grow.
