Book Club

By CL

Thank you all for inviting me to a vast new world
Where one is limited only by a lack of imagination
A place where countless adventures unfurl
On a voyage to uncharted destinations

Kelli’s biweekly sessions of meditation
Followed by games to relieve our stress
Keela’s unwavering dedication
Encouraging us all to do our best

So amazing how a simple chapter in a book
Can give birth to complicated meetings of the mind
It’s a blessing in disguise depending on where you look
The cherished camaraderie you inevitably find

Brought together by words unread
Bonded by stories of similar fate
Reliving these memories in my head
Of moments I truly appreciate

Dedicated to Kelli Taylor, Keela Hailes, and the entire Free Minds Book Club Family

    Dear CL,

Very heartfelt poem! Your writing is introspective and vulnerable, you’re not afraid to show how much you care about your Free Minds family. I can’t wait to see what your write next!

    CL,

Thank you for taking the time to share this. It’s amazing how words can transport us. Some stories speak to us so accurately that they become more than stories. You have this power of words, too. Connect with those that need to hear your voice and your message.

    Keep writing!

This poem is really great. I am so excited that you have gotten into the world of reading and writing. This is an open space where you can be creative and open up to the realm of imagination. Book clubs can truly bring people together through discussion. I particularly enjoyed the last stanza where you discuss bonding over similar stories.

I am a student in a community service course at Wayne State in Detroit whose goal is to engage with the community beyond the university. When I discovered Free Minds I was immediately thrilled to see the connections build around your writings and heart, and what you have to offer is a powerful and beautiful gift to the community. It was a true privilege getting the opportunity to read what is on your heart and mind, your desires and passions, thoughts, and struggles. You have so much to say, so much wisdom to give, and such deep experiences and desires to share with the community that people from all walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs, and ages can deeply connect with and affiliate with. Keep engaging with the community and making your voice heard. You bring healing, hope, and renewal of mind to many who have the privilege to share in your poetry. Your poem so powerful and true, books and writing have so much potential and power to connect people from all walks of life, all ages, all cultures, and all people. The writing you are doing is bringing people together and uniting them in moments that I appreciate and deeply value as well. Keep writing and reliving these memories in your head, making new ones as you go.

This poem is one of my favorite poems I’ve read so far! As someone who loves to read, I totally understand the power of a good book and how it can transform your mind. Getting lost in great writing is one of the most powerful things there is. I love how even the shortest of poems can deliver so many emotions and have such a huge impact on a reader, or how differently writing can be interpreted by different individuals. I love this poem!
